detroit, music, gaming, getting a job

Hey, everyone.

sorry about the extended silence; I moved into a studio apartment in Southgate to go to school, and I haven't had a computer available at the times when I would usually do a journal entry (like 10 to midnight or so). Feel asssured that all my silence ever means is computer troubles or a gridlocked schedule.

Life has been getting better, though it sucked right at first when I moved out. I would be the last person that I would suspect would miss constant human contact, but moving out of a family of 6 in a farmhouse into a studio apartment all alone is a bit of a shocker. The fact that nothing ever disappears or is mysteriously destroyed is actually disconcerting at first, as well as other things that make perfect sense, like if I don't go out and get food, I will continue to not have any. But, after about a month of this odd existence, I am getting used to it. For those who know me, Imagine my room with an adjoining tiny kitchen and tiny bathroom, more closet space, one corner fashioned into a bit of a living room, and maybe nicer carpet. (Ugly, but comfortable.)

School was another shocker; there are a bazillion music students here, and a full-blown music department with more than 5 teachers! The nice thing about Mott was that there were only just enough music majors to make one group of friends, but here, it's like a whole school full of musicians, many of whom seem to think they're still in high school. That being said, I have made frends. Rachel is a working mother who is also attending college; she's an accompanist. She's one of those women that's cute in a dignified, but not stuffy, way. It's nice to talk to her, because she's doing exactly what my mom was doing while I was in middle school. Mitchell was a random introduction, but it turns out that he knows all of Kevin's friends. Through an odd twist of high school drama, not all of my friends like him, but I'm used to my friends fighting so whatever. I hate drama. Michelle is my fellow soprano for the semester, and that's pretty encompassing. She's pretty, friendly, and talks about clothes and her boyfriend. I'm not complaining as long as there are no catty comments. Guitar; my fingers hurt almost as much as my brain. Piano; getting better.

I just got hired into Marshall Field's; my first day of training is tomorrow; 6 hours! Yay! Money! ... I mean... professional integrity? Whatever. It's like 7.50 an hour, so you will not find me complaining about anything except possibly not getting enough of said hours. More on that when it happens.

Been hanging out with Kevins group o' super gamers a lot; Andy just went back to California (a dark type with a bloody sense of humor, but an ironclad sense of loyalty), John (nicknamed Tons o' fun by the others, and that's as accurate a description of him as you'll find. He's funny and huge.) Walker is a quiet guy who seems only ever to play games. Jury's still out on that one. So, trying to learn dungeons and Dragons. I have never encountered such a complicated game. It's fascinating.

I think that's all for now. Flint, I miss you sometimes, but I'm not sorry.

Hugs to everyone at home.
Katie
