Journal Entry

Dec 13, 2006 13:25

I've made some important realizations during this last period. One, never look on the internet for self-help tips unless you want to drive away even your most indulgent friends. Just kidding. But I did realize some other things. One is that I want to spend a lot of time outside this winter. I want to get a pair of skates. For some reason I really feel drawn to doing really hard, outdoor stuff right now, like hikes etc. I went through a phase when I was 18 when I lost all my friends, stopped drinking/partying, became obsessed with music, and worked a hideous nannying job for two crazy psychology professors every day after highschool. I got the job in January, so every day that winter I trudged through the cold to pick up those kids from their school, and I was absolutely LOATHE to make that walk, as it was storming half the time, and I was even more of a tender blossom then than I am now. I spent that whole winter almost entirely alone, walking through the snow, with or without those kids, and the other half playing crazy games about death with those crazy kids, or singing the songs I was obsessed with while I walked. I definitely think that winter was one of the more important times of my life. I'm still an immature person generally but God help us all if I hadn't at least had that period.

Although this time I haven't lost anyone, as I am the luckiest gal in the world in that department, I want to spend my winter healthfully and in the snow. I'm excited about the winter weather. The great thing about walking in the snow is how it's so hard to get out and start, but after 20 minutes it would be harder to go back in than to stay out. One must have a mind of winter, eh? Well, that's all I have to say, except that I invite any tips on where a gal can buy some used skates. I'm going to Montreal this weekend, so maybe I'll pick some up there. Or in Waterloo next week. I'm excited to see many of you real soon!

Wow, this was like a real journal entry. Thanks for reading it. Now you know what kind of stuff I'm scribbling if you ever see me on the Greyhound.
