Film Review: John Carter of Mars
A cinematic masterpeice? No. Fun to watch? Yes--if you accept that it is something of a period piece, like those old Jules Verne films from the 60s. Like them, it is flamboyant, old-fashioned, and without the merest hint of cynicism. John Carter doesn't deserve the trashing it has received at the hands of critics. I think it's telling that the audience members on Rottentomatoes give it a much higher rating than the critics do.
