meh, meh, meh

Lord Branwyn was sick over New Year's, so now it's my turn. He says that it sounded like Mrs. Darth Vader was sleeping beside him last night. On top of that, my right shoulder has been bothering me for several weeks. I kept waiting for it to get better, but I broke down and went to see the doctor yesterday. After scaring the hell out of me by ( Read more... )

Oh noes You've got a sports injury - Good on you! *grin* Is it from the elliptical machine, do you think? Can you still use it for the lower-body workout? You don't want to let your momentum slip, now that you've gotten into the good exercise habit.
Sorry to hear about the respiratory unhappiness, though you could, if you were feeling particularly spiteful, remind him of all the years his snoring kept you awake. And I imagine he sounds a bit Darth Vaderish himself, if he's using one of those breathing machines. So there.

I'm enjoying your HH story, even if it's not getting the widespread love. I could go into a whole discourse about Why We Write, but won't; there's little point to it. There are maybe three or four people regularly reading my Swordspoint stuff, the only writing I have the slightest interest in at the moment. I'm pretty much satisfied with the idea that making three or four peoples' days a bit brighter is probably enough. YMMV, anybody's would, based on amount of research required, physical and emotional energy ( ... )

I think my sports injury is probably from carrying buckets of drinking water for horses. *grin* Or lifting big bags of cat litter. No, Lord B. no longer has to use the breathing machine (many yays), though I have accused him of sounding like Darth Vader for years.

I always spend far more time on research than on the actual writing, lol...

Ouch - That's the problem with that sort of soft tissue injury, there's very little to do but wait until they get better - although when I damged my elbow playing Badminton (persistently over-extending the joint when I served) they treated it with ultra-sound. A most pequliar feeling - it felt ice cold on the inside!

As one who snores terribly... those breathe right snorestrips athletes wear do work... so my Daughter tells me. ;p

My boss plays tennnis, so she was the first person I went to for advice, lol! And indeed, she has had trouble with her shoulder.

I'm so sorry you're hurt!!! :(

I injured my rotator cuff years ago and I know it's not fun! I couldn't lift my arm up to wash my hair... it was very painful. :( I ended up doing physical therapy - I remember them doing different sorts of things like a bicycle type thing you did with your hands and then some sort of electric stimulation. Then I had to do a variety of stretching exercises at home.

I have problems with it once in a while and them I'm careful but I try and do some of those exercises again. Leaving it alone and not stretching it out seems to make it last longer.

You take care of yourself!

Thanks! The pain is more annoying than excruciating, so I don't think it is a very big tear. I'm mostly alarmed because it hasn't gotten better on it's own. My doctor did offer to refer me to an orthopedist, though she didn't think I'd need surgery or physical therapy. If this doesn't get better in a month or so, I will call her back for a referral.

2 years ago I suffered from 'frozen shoulder' aka adhesive capsulitis. It progressed to the point where I couldn't braid my hair or get dressed without difficulty, which finally forced me to the doctor. *g* Fortunately nothing was torn.

My orthopedist gave me a cortisone shot to put out the fire in my shoulder and promptly sent me off to physical therapy. It took about 4 months until I had full use of my shoulder. Apparently when the pain in my shoulder started, I babied it by not using it as much which just makes frozen shoulder worse. It's a case of use it or lose it.

I know your doctor told you that you have a tear in the cuff, but the tendonitis part sounds creepily like the way my problem started. Regardless, I hope you feel better soon!

The doctor did check whether I still had full range of motion in both shoulders, and I don't have frozen shoulder. She offered to refer me to an orthopedic specialist, but she said she wasn't sure it was necessary because the damage seemed minor. I am going to give the anti-inflammatory drugs (Celebrex) a try for a month or so, and then give her a call if there hasn't been significant progress.
Yes, I follow a policy of "doctor avoidance" as much as possible. :D
