When we lived in AU, not one person asked me if I was american. They just automatically assumed I was Canadian!

Really? That's interesting!
When we were in Switzerland/Rome/Paris last year everyone assumed we were British because we spoke English and they couldn't tell the difference in accent. I guess that makes more sense than assuming someone is from halfway around the world!!

Yeah, they would always say "Oh! Are you Canadian??" And of course I would say that no, indeed I was an american. And they're say "Oh" and give me a look like I'd steal their wallet if they gave me half a chance!

Yeah, it's rough, but I wouldn't give it up for a second. I did have to explain to a lot of people that the US isn't all just New York and LA. We don't all own guns. We don't commit violent acts on a daily basis. I personally don't own any guns, I live in a lovely small town, and I haven't assaulted anyone in years. ;-)

It's so true, it's all just stereotypes and every country has them! I know people today who seriously think that everyone in Canada lives in an igloo. I'm sure I have them about other countries as well that are so untrue. I find the more I travel, the more open minded I become.

I'll be the first to admit I've got a whole bunch of stereotypes packed into my head about other countries....though not Canada since I've been there and I have family there. Tom on the other hand has been everywhere and is one of the most open minded people I've ever met.
