34 Taliesin
Originally uploaded by Lady Birchwood. On Thursday last week, we left St. Paul and headed towards southcentral Wisconsin to the town of Spring Green, Wisconsin, population 1444. Frank Lloyd Wright's mother's family was from this valley in Wisconsin, and it was there that he chose to build his home beginning in 1911. He named it Taliesin, a word meaning "shining brow," for it was at the crown of a hill that he selected his site.

My husband and I both just finished the novel, "Loving Frank," and we just had to visit Taliesin after learning the history of Frank Lloyd Wright's and Mamah Borthwick's home. We used my birthday (tomorrow) as an excuse to take a couple of days of vacation and make the trip.

Taliesin is an awesome structure and worthy of preservation, although it will now takes millions of dollars to restore the building to an adequate condition, and Mr. Wright left no money in his accounts towards any such effort upon his death in 1959. The small donation we can afford towards this effort is a drop in the bucket, but we feel compelled to help if we can.
