Election Day 2008

Nov 04, 2008 09:03

I was awake very early this morning - about 5:00 A.M. - and out of bed by 5:25. Dale and I left for the nearby fire station where we normally vote by 6:55. The line was long, and the traffic around the fire station was crazy. We had to park about four blocks away to find a space in the residential neighborhood by the fire station.

We stood in line for about ten minutes when a woman carrying a notebook came down the line. She was informing people that the fire station was no longer the voting poll for Precinct 15. It was just for Precinct 16 now. Precinct 15 was voting at the Lutheran church about a mile away. We probably got a notification about this in the mail weeks ago that was disregarded. (Or not.) Neither of us was aware, at any rate, that our voting place had changed.

So, we walked back to the car and drove to the Lutheran church. The good news is that there was parking available in the parking lot and the lines weren’t that long. They seemed a bit disorganized, but when it was all said and done, we probably got out of there in the same amount of time that we would have at the fire station. I was to work just a little bit late instead of a whole lot late, proudly wearing my “I Voted” sticker on my blouse.

I have the feeling that it is going to be a long, fidgety day. The wait to find out the outcome of this election will seem like a long one. It’ll be tough to think about anything else today.

The champagne is cold and I’m ready for a celebratory toast! Please let the outcome warrant that tonight…

election day, i voted
