*Warning* LOTS of photos
On the first few days of my tour there were about 10 people on the last few days of theirs. See the face near the arrow? The younger brother of Mark Latham himself on a Contiki tour and my bus! He was very popular with the girls, spending the whole night buying round after round of drinks.
The cruise in the Bay of Islands was amazing. The water was the most stuning shade of blue and there was island after island draped in dark green trees dotting the bay. I could have spent a week looking at it all.
In Waitomo I went black water rafting. They give you a wetsuit, helmet with a light on top, a tyre to sit on and send you underground in pitch dark, ice cold water. It was an awesome experience to jump BACKWARDS off rocks into the dark water and then float along looking at the glow worms on the roof of the cave, it looked just like the stars.
On the way to Rotorua we went Zorbing. It is imposible to descirbe the rush you get from leaping into a large rubber ball filled with warm soapy water and being rolled down a hill. I'd do it again in an instant.
These were my girls on the trip. Thelma on the left from Mexico and Stefanie from Germany. We shard a room together for the whole trip and became instant friends. Stefanie lives in Brisbane at the moment, I can't wait until she gets home so I can visit her! If Themla doesn't come to Australia I'm going to have to go the Mexico to see her, I already miss her so much.
The guy on the right is Alistair, he was our tour guide, a very funny, silly guy. He's 26 and living it up on Contiki, he must be having the most awesome life at the moment, a different girl to meet him in every town we went to plus all the girls on the trip who fell for him. One night he took a girl back to his room and had to walk her back out of the hotel past a group of us...ooo he was fun to pick on. The guy on the left was Chris our driver. He was by far the favourite of the two for Thelma and I. He often came dancing with us and on Thelma and my last night the three of us went Salsa dacing in between shouting eachother rounds of tequilla and mexican beer. I will miss him as well.
a sort of better photo of Chris, surrounded by girls, as usual......Thelma and I really had our ego's stroked on this trip - most of the girls all wanted to go out with Chris and we had Chris asking to go out with us :) Chris was getting quite sweet on Thelma by the end, if we had stayed any longer things would have gotten much more hot and steamy than just the salsa dancing did.... :)
On our first night in Wellington, we went to dinner at a very trendy cafe where there was free champagne for ladies so of course, Thelma and I had a few. Following this Alistair bought all the girls three jugs of something yummy which resulted in four or so shots each.....followed by two other bars and much more drinking. When we finally made it to a really awesome sports bar we ended up (thanks to Thelma!) meeting the drummer of the band who happens to be going to Thelma's home town later this year.....to cut a long story short Steve tracked us down the following night and took myself, Thelma and Isabelle from France salsa dancing at an amazing latin club. I can't stop Salsa dancing in my head or around the house now :P
It's hard to describe just how amazing an experience my holiday in New Zealand was. In the ten days I was there I felt more happy, more alive, free and like myself than I have ever before. I can't believe I'm home already, and have so quickly gained and left an amazing group of friends. Thank god for email addresses.
The people on this tour were incredible, I wish I could have brought them all home. Thelma (Mexico), Stefanie (Germany), Caroline (Austria), Isabelle (France), Jo (Canada), Neil (Scotland), Chris (New Zealand), the Andrews (Australia), Lena (Australia) and so many more. I miss them so much already. They were prefect travelling companions, and made the best of friends.
and a few more random photos because I can!
I have so many more stories and about 300 more photos but this will do for now. I can't wait to go back, September is looking good.
