さて、俗に言う幕末とはいつの時代の事を指すでしょうか？
So, this "Bakumatsu" period - what time is it referring to?

大河ドラマ「竜馬伝」が、本年度用の高校英語の教材に登場する事が分かりました。
教材では、日米の高校生がドラマの事や、坂本竜馬の魅力などについて、英語で会話する形式になってると言う事です。
It seems that the NHK taiga drama "The Tale of Ryouma" has become included in this year's senior highschool English teaching materials. The format of the materials is such that Japanese and American senior high school students will have conversations in English about things like the drama and the appeal of Sakamoto Ryouma.

英語ですよ、みなさん！
It's English, everybody!
やっぱりねぇ、英語はね、しゃべれないとねぇ。
Of course, being able to speak in English is necessary, isn't it?
世界共通語ですよ。 だから、ねぇっ。
Because it's the world's common language, right?
いやぁ、でもなぁ～、おいらも昔から英語やる、やるとかって言ってね…
Well, but, y'know~ I also always used to say I'd have a go at learning English.
結局、やんないんですよ。
But in the end I haven't.
ええ…。
Yeah.
なんででしょうね？
Why is that I wonder?
うーん。
Hmm.
やっときゃ良かったなぁ～って。
I kind of wish I had.
今からでも、全然、遅く無いんですよ。
Even now it's not too late you know!
そんなの分かってるんですけどね。

やっぱりねぇ、あのー、外国で暮らして、自然に覚えたいよね。
Of course, y'know, I’d prefer to pick it up naturally by spending time abroad.

覚えらんないんだよ、英語って。
I can't remember any of it. English.
一時期ね、ちょっと覚えたんだよな。
Although, y'know, at one time I did memorise a little bit.
「スピナッチソテー プリーズ」って。
"Spinacchi sotē puriizu!" ("Spinach Sautée please!")
ふふふっ。
Fufufu.
いやぁ…覚えたんですよねっ。
Well, I remembered that.
「ほうれん草炒め下さい」って。
That's "sautéed spinach please".
何で、覚えたかって？
Why did I remember that?
いや、なかなか言わないじゃん。
It's not something you say often, is it?
これを、言えたら…ちょっと、
If I remember this, it's a bit like...
「あ！コイツ、通だな」みたいな、事かな？と思って。
"Ah! This guy's a connoisseur!" ..I think it seems like that kind of thing, right?
ええ、ただそれだけ。フッ！ふふふふふふふっ。
Yeah. But it's actually the only thing I know! Fufufufufu.
