Whoever invented MP3 and the portable jukebox is currently reaching Apollo-like status in my eyes. I purchased a nifty new portable MP3 player - no, actually it isn’t merely an MP3 player it is a Portable Storage Device *revels in North American commercialism* I now have every single song I could ever want to listen to downloaded and still have enough room on the 20gb hard drive to store my lecture notes or record meetings. *weeps with joy* Of course there are some technicalities I need to straighten out like reorganizing the naming of the files *urgh* but I think I should be able to get this done tonight. Homework is suffering though - I have not completed one bit of homework since Monday evening. Phil is off tomorrow and I really don’t have anything major to do at work so I should be able to transcribe lectures all day. Friday is a write-off (Stratford - but I am NOT excited as per the new restriction). Saturday is the early morning wakeup in effort to wait fooolishly in line since I won't be able to get tickets to the movie I want to see buy Film Fest gala tickets.
Film Fest schedule is partially released and surprisingly there are many (approx. 6-8) films I am interested in. I doubt I will be able to purchase tickets for any - the good movies are always sold out before single seats even go on sale. Had to laugh though - all the celebrities listed for their Galas at Roy Thomson or the Elgin and poor Orlando’s Haven will not be showing at EITHER one of the main theatres. Can’t wait to see where they send him *snickers* I shouldn’t mock though since I will be trying to get tickets for Haven- the movie does sound interesting.
Olympics update - Gold in women’s cycling. Although what happened to Perdita was heartbreaking, it proved quite enjoyable for me here at work. The staff were talking about the race all day (in fact, Julie had been talking about it all week) - they were all so excited that when the big event came, they decided to go downstairs to the caf to watch on TV. I stayed behind reveling in my total apathy of all things they find of interest (usually trivial sports/hockey news items) Not two minutes later, the first one was back to tell me the results followed by the duo who proceeded to spend the remainder of the day analyzing the performances of the Canadian contingent in every single event…completed or forthcoming*bangs head against wall*. As you can see, we lead truly productive careers here at the OHF. A final Olympic thought for the day - Italy has 8 gold medals alone. That would be more than Canada’s combined medal total *scoffs* But can they play hockey???
Am forced to watch Amazing Race now just to see who of the morons left will overcome their own futility, will avoid killing off their partner and win the race to earn their muchly undeserved million dollars. Without Myrna and Charla it is all irrelevant. Last night was a non-elimination round so we have the dubious pleasure of enjoying the entire lot again next week. *disinterested yawn*
Tonight Canadian Idol - contestants singing “Summer Songs”. Please define “Summer Songs”?? I will play a song all year round if I like it. Martha Reeves’ Heat Wave is as divine in February as it is in July. Perhaps it has to have the world “summer” in the title or in the lyrics to qualify as a “summer song”. I hope CA clarifies.
I have a package at home - either Victoria’s Secret order *likely* or Philosophy lectures cd *unlikely*. I hope it is the former - I am only on Lecture 6 of French Civ and I want…need…to be further into the course before I begin Philosophy.
Today is the Sport Alliance BBQ lunch. Looks kind of hazy right now. I think I’ll run out at Noon and do the minimal obligatory socializing *eep* that is necessary in order to grab my hamburger *yuck* or hotdog *double yuck* and then sneak back to office unnoticed.
Bond update (really wish this wasn’t necessary)- one entertainment source has indicated the EB has in fact now been offered the role and is deciding what to do. I place the eventual outcome into the able-bodied hands of Lachesis (or Tyche or Fortuna…) - I trust she’ll get this straightened out for me him!!
Now that I am feeling reasonably belligerent I must comment on the shooting that took place outside of Union Station during morning rush hour. If I had gone the other way to work I would have witnessed the whole incident. I don’t know whether I am disgusted or intrigued. Anyhow - the entire area is closed off now and I will avoid on way home. I don’t have too many details on the actual shooting as yet so I refrain from any judgment at this point.
On a more positive side - Troy Countdown Pt II: 47 days until I swoon with the phrase “My brothers of the sword”.
Lastly, today is the anniversary of two memorable events in Roman history - the conclusion of the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D. (and thus, creation/authentication of the Nicene Creed), and the death of Pliny the Elder (tragic consequence resulting from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius).
Perhaps if I try hard enough I can flip from one topic to another even less effectively than I did today (BBQ to Bond to Union Station shooting ?? What was I thinking??? *rolls eyes*)
