A Pleasant Sunday...

In the scope of things, today has to have been one of the better days of recent memory. It started out with me waking up at 9 AM to watch Rafa defeat Rogelio in the final of the Monte Carlo Masters. He accomplished that goal in grand fashion - taking the first set 7-5 and then, after being down 4-0 in the second set, he came back to win 5 straight games and, ultimately, the match. To follow up his singles victory, Rafa and Tommy won the doubles Final. Rafa never ceases to amaze me with his skills. For the record book, Rafa:
  • is the first player since Jim Courier in 1991 to win both titles (singles + doubles) in an ATP Masters Series tournament
  • is the first player to win both titles in Monte Carlo since Ilie Nastase in 1973
  • is the first player to win four straight Monte Carlo titles since Anthony Wilding (1911-14)
  • has defeated Roger Federer in the Monte Carlo finals for the past three years
  • has already won 10 Masters Series titles (compared to the career totals for Sampras = 11, Federer = 14, Agassi = 17) before his 22nd birthday
Next up is the Barcelona tourney which he should breeze through without even breaking a sweat. Ferrer is the #2 seed. And UN-fortunately, F-Lo (the #16 seed...WOOT!!!) is in Rafa's bracket.  They should meet up in the third round.  That is a must-see match if there ever was one.

While I can't praise Rafa enough for his success, I do have to give some credit to Roger at this week's event...not so much for his play but more so for him telling off  the Djokovic camp mid-match in the Semi Final. Hmmm, didn't think he still had it in him. *snicker*

The time between tennis and futbol was spent  reading Prince Caspian while sunbathing in the courtyard garden. This novel is as good if not better than The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe and I am now very much eager to see how  it is adapted to film.  Hopefully more Prince Caspian and less Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. May 16th is the North American release date. Next week CBC is airing the first movie in HD. Can't wait!!

Next up came the Real Madrid game. As magnificent as everyone played, I'd have to say the play of the game was Iker's save on the penalty shot. Maybe I'm a little partial to my boys but that referee seemed so biased against RM. As much as I want them to win the title next week against Osasuna, a part of me wants them to postpone that celebration for another week so that they can win it at home, against Barca. It would be so much more satisfying. OMG Ray Hudson, when he wasn't in his usual perpetual-glorification-of-Iker-Casillas mode, actually took a moment to praise Gago this week. *faints* And Higuain scored...AGAIN!! :-)

I was so pumped from all this male testosterone I actually had to go to the gym to work out so that I could calm down. It has been a while since I've treadmill-ed but I managed a very comprehensive 30 minute workout and feel much better because of it. Tomorrow, well that is another matter.

YAY - Adam won on Big Brother. If you had told me at the beginning of the season that he was going to win and that I actually would be hoping for his success, I would have thought you were on cheap drugs. That says more about the quality of his opponents. *eyedart* I'm also happy James won the $25K as the 'fan favourite' of the jurors. As insane as James may have acted at time, he seemed like the only one on that show with a head on his shoulders.
