I was reading the Metro paper this morning and there is yet again another scandal in the tennis world, this time focusing on an
alleged poisoning attempt. OK so let's tally this up now...in the past year and a half or so since I have been following the ATP circuit, the below-noted events and scandals have occurred:
- Drug Scandal - Martina Hingis is rumoured to test positive for cocaine abuse
- Match Fixing Scandal - Nikolai Davydenko is accused of throwing a match because of concerns over unusual betting activity
- Open Rebellion - Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, in a joint display of power and solidarity, publicly voice concerns in Monte Carlo over ATP planned schedule changes
- Poisoning Scandal - ITF is investigating allegations that Tommy Haas was poisoned prior to a Davis Cup Match against Russia
- Underage Gay Sex Scandal - okay, this hasn't exactly happened...yet...but in the wake of these past headlines nothing would surprise me
Well no wonder why I am following tennis again...it has become the new Ancient Rome. Imperial decadence, Spartacus-like revolts, Catiline-ish conspiracies, Livian-styled poisonings, and to top it off, a narcissistic leader who thinks he is a god....OMG, it's as if I've finally come home. *hugs ATP* *eyes future Emperor Rafa*
