Granted a part of me expected this match to go five long sets and that Rafa would have to come back from being down by two sets, but did it really have to happen - especially when I'm not feeling well. I couldn't sleep last night knowing that I'd have to wake up early to watch the match. Couple that with the remains of the cold that is currently besieging my body and I was literally shiverring and weeping by the time he got his first break in the fifth set. Unlike his nice, straight sets, never-had-to-worry-for-a-second victory in the third round, I was forced to endure four excruciating long hours of edge-of-your seat tennis on a 3" x 3" TVU screen. When all was said and done, the boy was walking off the court with a much deserved and hopefully soon-to-be well-lauded victory. For the past day, I've had to listen to every ESPN announcers body predicting if not outright declaring Andy Murray to be the hands-down winner - it's like there is this great Rafa-backlash among the media, like they want him to lose. Well tough!! That'll teach those naysayers. And to top off Rafael's victory, neither of the B-Boys (Berdych & Blake) made it to the QFs. Blake, aka Captain America, lost in straight sets *snicker*. I'm certain the media will downplay that one. Unfortunately for Rafa, that means he will face Gonzalez in the QF. I actually like Gonzalez. The match could go either way. Of course, the media are already speculating on a Davydenko/Gonzalez SF *rolls eys*. If Rafa doesn't get to the Semis I won't be that disappointed - I'm completely satisfied that he overcame someone who was considered a "worthy" challenger, someone who was expected to defeat him. If Rafa makes it to the Semis, that's great. If he makes it to the finals to face Rogelio, all the better. But at least he deserves some accolades for proving his worth today. Bravo little one.
And another late night/morning for him...the match ended at 1:50 AM. He won't be taking any sleep until 6 am at the earliest. I can sympathize. I'm going back to bed right now in hopes that I might actually get a few hours of uninterrupted sleep . Wake me up for 3 PM though, when TSN airs the tape-delayed, biased and condensed version of what was quite a thrilling match. At least they can't edit his victory.
Rome - episode II. I'll have to get back to you on that one. *princeps fan-girl luv*
