***** When the first year circled around for the fifth time, Cedric decided to take pity on her. "Hey!" he called. "You lost?"
The first year turned and stared at him as if not sure he was addressing her. "Are you talking to me, Cedric Diggory?" she asked.
Cedric blinked. How'd she know his name? She wasn't a Hufflepuff, though she did look familiar. "Yeah. So where are you headed?"
"Charms," the girl answered. "I keep winding up on the first floor. I imagine an Opalis Firticle is twisting the air."
Cedric stared. A what now? "Yeah, perhaps," he said aloud. He knew immediately what had happened. That staircase did like to deposit people back on the first floor. "How about I show you a shortcut, so you can avoid it."
"That would be lovely," she said and smiled.
And he recognized that smile. "You're Luna Lovegood," he said. "You live by Ottery St. Catchpole."
"Yes."
Well, she came by her...quirks honestly. He headed for the Charms classroom. "If you avoid that stairca--er, the Opalis Firticle, you might have an easier time making it to class."
"Thank you, but they fixate on people. It might make it its goal to prevent me from getting to Charms on time ever."
Cedric couldn't quite stop a chuckle, but disguised it as a cough. "Well, if you have any more trouble, come find me. I'll get you to Charms," he said.
She looked directly at him. "That's very kind of you, Cedric Diggory. I hope I won't have to very often."
"I'm sure you can outwit it," Cedric told her. "And here we are at Charms. Have a good lesson."
"Thank you very much, Cedric Diggory," Luna said, and went into the classroom.
Cedric shook his head and headed back to enjoy his free period.
Oh, YAY! Oh, this is so *sweet*! Oh, Luna! Oh, Cedric! CEDRIC AND LUNA! ::loves:: They're so very perfect. I love how she calls him by his full name the entire time, and he's so *nice.*
