I wrote my Declaration of Intent today. it goes like this:
Starting today, December First, I will keep a Christmas Journal. In it I will write something everyday to reflect on the holidays of the past, enjoy the holidays of the present and dream about the holidays of the future.
I am taking back my Christmas. I am letting it be something I relish.
I am giving myself 15 minutes to myself no matter how manic the season becomes.
This Christmas I will make something with my hands, my own words and my own memories.
I have put this onto the first page in the Journal My Christmas album and once again I find that I want to embellish the page with some sort of pretty stuff but I like it spare and empty with just the writing on it. I put the date on a circle of card and stuck that on and then put a couple of flowers. I found myself picking through the flowers looking for the red ones of a particular shade and the pale green ones and realised that I was unconciously colour co-ordinating with the papers I have chosen.
This is a good thing and will be the first time I have ever co-ordinated anything at Christmas.
I love the excitement that the first Sunday in Advent brings. The promise of connection with the family and the certainty that Christmas is really on its way.
I have also been Haggis Hunting as the season started yesterday at
