Actually, I'm usually pretty good in the kitchen. I like finding new recipes and trying them out. Maria's the one who throws things together.
Today on the Weight Watchers website I was looking for snack ideas, and found a recipe for curried chickpeas that sounded yummy. I was imagining them to be kind of like wasabi peas (which I love) but with curry. And chickpeas.
Anyway, we happened to have a can of chickpeas in the pantry, so tonight when I got home I decided to try them out. This is basically the recipe: 2 tsp olive oil, 2 tsp curry powder...heat in a pan, then toss in a can (15 oz -- I had 14oz) and coat them. Then bake at 425 until they're crunchy - about an hour. (About an hour? That should have been my first clue that something was wrong.)
Our apartment now smells like burnt cookies (not curry, surprisingly enough) and there's a pan of little black pebbles still sitting in the oven.
They sounded so good, too.
*sigh*
