My suggestion is to get the travel system. The carrier is the most wonderful thing in the whole world when they are tiny because they fall asleep at the most inopportune times and then you don't have to wake them up to transfer from car to wherever. Only usually good until 20 lbs though. Make sure the stroller part is good for big kids - otherwise it won't be useful after you are done with the base.

After they are about a year and a half old or so you'll probably ditch the whole big stroller and get just the umbrella stroller since it is much lighter.

I assume you have 2 cars. If you are likely to use both cars often, then I suggest buying a second base for the other car. If not, get a convertible car seat for the second car and then you will have it for when the baby outgrows the carrier and base, which happens quickly. The convertible seat works well because it works back facing for little ones and front for when they get a little older.

I also strongly recommend going to the baby doll section of the store and borrow one and try to buckle the doll in and see how it works, see how easy it is to adjust as well. Some are much better than others.

thank you so much! that is really helpful! i will have to ask about the convertible car seat since i don't know much about any of this stuff. we do have two cars and something that goes the distance as they get bigger sounds good.

thanks again!!

That suggestion Bonnie made about taking a doll over and trying to work the units using that doll is a great one!

i thought so too! very clever! especially since some of the reviews for those things ends up being how difficult they are to operate. :)
