Well, five little monkies were jumping off the bed--I MEAN.

Zidane is what is known as a Genome, and was born originally on the planet Terra, a dead planet somewhere in the solar system. Well… he was kind of born. More so, he and his older brother Kuja and younger sister, Mikoto were never really born. The truth is that Zidane was really a created being by a man named Garland. The three of them were intended to be “Angels of Death”. Kuja was the first created and was, inevitably, considered a failure. That’s where Zidane came in. He was made to succeed Kuja. The point of the Angels of Death? Steal Gaia’s lives and souls to fuel Terra’s needs. Zidane was sent in when Garland realized his sibling Kuja could not enter trance to assimilate Gaia to Terra. Kuja, infuriated by Garland’s decision, abandoned Zidane, where he was found by Baku and the thieving theater group, Tantalus.

He only remembers one thing from his childhood-a blue light.

Now Tantalus… Well, they were a definitely interesting group. So interesting, in fact, that they shaped Zidane to be much more than this Angel of Death he was supposed to be.

First of all, Tantalus is known as a theater group. And a damn good one at that. They own their own Airship, and though they’re based out of Lindblum, travel all around Gaia to put on famous shows. One of the most popular, and integral to the story line, is I Want To Be Your Canary. Through his studies of theatrics, Zidane learns how to be one smooth talker. He’s an actor. And a good one at that. Zidane was able to rise up quickly through the ranks, becoming one of their most prized members.

And let’s be honest. It was fun. This is where Zidane learned a lot of his moral fiber. Tantalus is a real brotherhood of people. All from different backgrounds, but will always help out a fellow brother. Zidane takes that one step further, claiming that you never need a reason to help someone. He really gains so much from being with Tantalus. Very far from what he was supposed to be. It’s also where he learned to be super cunning. Whether it was tricking Baku to believe no one took anything from his private wallet, or keeping a fellow Brother busy on his birthday to quell suspicion, Zidane excelled in it all. For example, when kidnapping Princess Garnet, Zidane and fellow Brother Blank dress as guards to get around the castle.

As well, with Tantalus, he learned how to be one sneaky little monkey! That’s right, the monkey’s a thief. And a good one at that. There are several scenes throughout the game where his sneakiness benefits him. Whether it’s climbing into a barrel to hide and wait, or sneaking a nice feel of Princess Garnet’s bum, his cunning is, once more, unrivaled. The fact that he has a steal skill proves that he’s a good thief. Oh. One more thing to mention here. As Zidane aged, he became increasingly aware of how attractive he was as a young man, and flirted with nearly every fine lady he laid eyes on. Can we say… pretty big ego? Why, yes. Yes we can.

That’s all well and good. Zidane aged to the tender age of fifteen. With not a care in the world, he’s fully on board when Tantalus decides to kidnap the lovely Princess Garnet from Alexandria Castle during a performance of I Want To Be Your Canary. DING DING. Maaaajor ploooot developmeeeeent. This is where Zidane meets the love of his life, Princess Garnet. He, with the help of Blank, sneaks into Alexandria Castle. What a surprise it was when he found out Princess Garnet wanted to be kidnapped! Zidane complied with this-hey, it was part of the mission! And she was one fine looking lady.

Through some trouble escaping, the Tantalus ship crashed into the Evil Forest. (I feel like we’re in Dora-land here, man. SOMEONE CALL THAT STUPID MAP.) This is the place where Zidane rescues Garnet for the first time. He does lose contact with Tantalus, but operates independently of them. It shows here that he can work alone when necessary. Through the evil forest and an ice cave, the group doth go. Zidane fights an enemy called a Black Waltz herr as well. By himself. YEAH. HE'S THAT BADASS. (We find out later that Kuja is the maker of these Black Waltz things.) As the group leaves the cave, Garnet adopts the alias Dagger-after one of Zidane’s weapons. It is also at this point Zidane makes it his duty to protect Dagger until she reaches Lindblum to see her Uncle Cid.

Here, there’s a cute little scene where there is a hunting tournament. Zidane proclaims that if he wins, Dagger will go out with him on a date. Though this doesn’t happen until waaaaay later in the storyline. C: It shows how his flirtatious, charismatic ways have an effect on everyone. Even Dagger who pretends not to like it, but... let's be honest here. Who wouldn't~? But onto more pressing matters…

GUESS WHAT? THE WORLD IS IN PERIL. No really. Dagger’s mother, the Queen, is planning on taking over the rest of Gaia with the help of a certain flaming, purple-haired individual--Kuja. Well damn. Zidane just can’t let that happen, can he? ESPECIALLY after the Alexandrian Queen attacks Lindblum mostly burning the city to the ground.

... That’s his hometown, bro. Noooo can do. This shows Zidane’s loyalty to not only his Tantalus brothers, but to these newfound friends. Did he have to stick around? No. But again, his moral fiber burns with the ambition to help people. And help he shall.

After this attack the group splits up (Thanks to some cunning drugging by Dagger). She and Steiner return to Alexandria to try and talk some sense into the Queen. Unfortunately, this doesn’t go according to plan. In fact, Brahne intends on drawing the summons from her daughter and then executing her! Talk about fantastic parenting, am I right? Of course, Zidane springs into action with the help of his friends. This event proves a couple of things. One, that Zidane’s feeling just a little more than average attraction to Dagger. Two, that he wants to continue protecting her.

Zidane does save Dagger’s life, but ultimately she loses all of her summons. This, again, is an event that impacts Zidane quite heavily. Brahne tried to kill her own daughter (Though notably, the original Princess Garnet died as a child, and Dagger was a girl from the Summoner's village. She was taken so young to take the place of the real Princess.) It's my belief that Zidane was desperate to protect her, and this makes him even more so protective of this girl... he... kind of really likes a lot.

It is at this point in the game, the group decides that going after Kuja would be the best course of action. They have already found that he was the one inspiring Brahne to act so insanely, and also had been supplying her with Black Mage dolls. Brahne moves to make an attack on the group utilizing a summon. Right on her own child. During this battle, Kuja decides that he’s had enough of Brahne and turns her summon against her. This ends up taking her life. Garnet is faced with a difficult decision at this point-save Gaia or become Queen. She takes the crown.

This is possibly the biggest turning point for Zidane in the entire canon. He’s never handled a breakup like this before. And it wasn’t even really a breakup! But regardless, he takes this hard. Ending up in a bar more than a few times, feeling down in the dumps, like he can’t do anything. It’s never something he enjoys, being useless. Even when wishing Dagger luck with accepting the crown, Zidane can’t bring himself to say much, or even look at her.

And reasonably so! Even though he has these deep feelings for Dagger, he can't help but realize... She's a Queen. She has a duty to her people, and someone like Zidane has little chance with a Princess--let alone a Queen! He's all around deflated when she accepts the crown, even though his comrades all scold him for his actions. Zidane decides to go to a card tournament in another city to distance himself.

And wouldn't you know it? Kuja attacks Alexandria, and though he is warded off, Garland (Kuja and Zidane's creator) interferes and blows the whole place up. DAMN. This is also the point in the story that Dagger goes mute from the trauma. Being reunited helps Zidane get over his momentary depression. The quest continues.

A note! A lot of Zidane's development happens through Dagger, and whereas it does affect and change his outlook some, he really doesn't change a lot. Mostly, he cuts down on his flirting. BUT, ABOUT THE MUTE THING... Here’s this girl he’s rather attracted to-more so than other woman, completely mute because of the actions of his nemesis. Zidane attempts to cheer her up by bringing up that date again, promising that when they do go on it, it’ll be amazing.

Eeeeeven though that whole mute thing sucks. Zidane, like he always does, keeps hopeful and reassures Dagger, who has become most important to him.

When the entire group is captured by Kuja, Zidane is blackmailed to retrieve a stone from a place which magic can't be used, Zidane learns of his connection to Terra. He questions his existence quite heavily. Learning that one is created is quite the thing, you see. Though he is stricken with... something, it is far from grief. The group, once more, escapes Kuja's clutches, but run into a girl who looks uncannily like Zidane. Say whaaaaat? She explains everything in detail. About Terra, Kuja, Zidane, and the rest of the genomes.

With the resolve to meet his creator and give him a real piece of his mind, Zidane sets off. Long story short, Garland makes Kuja mortal, Kuja goes balistic, enters Trance (WHICH HE WASN'T SUPPOSED TO DO DAMN IT.) and attempts to kill the world.

No big deal, right?

Wrong.

Like always, Zidane, with his friends at his side, resolve to meet Kuja in battle--though it is a loooooong process. (I HATED THIS PART OF THE GAME. DON'T MIND ME RUSHING THROUGH IT.) Finally, the epic battle comes. Meeting with Trnace!Kuja, the team is teleported to the Hill of Despair to defeat Necron, and furthermore, Kuja.

After defeat, Kuja teleports the party to semi-safety. Most of them go straight to the airship to escape. Not Zidane. What does he do?

Go try and save Kuja from dying. Their fate remains unknown for a little over a year, where Zidane reunites with Dagger during a performance of I Want To Be Your Canary. Credits roll C:

[ Personality ] : [Fused between my first Vat app and Star Kingdom app]
You may have noticed there was some personality trickled around the background section. Things here and there that influenced Zidane's character is sprinkled around there. I felt those were important to mention there. I'll do my best to sum a good majority of that up into this section as well, without repeating myself too much.

Zidane really is a great guy with higher moral standards--especially considering he's a thief. He lives by the mantra that you don't need a reason to help someone. You just do it. It's something that earns his follower's respect, as well as captivates them. Gaia got lucky when Zidane decided to save it. But that's just for starters. Zidane has so many more redeeming qualities that make him stand out amongst the crowd.

For one, he’s immensely helpful. Even to those he doesn’t care for. Case and point, he doesn’t necessarily care for Steiner and Amarant, yet remains friendly with the two, even coming back to save them from time to time. He does the same with Kuja after the final battle, even though he was a sworn enemy. It isn’t in Zidane’s nature to leave someone behind.

Ah, but virtue can be a fleeting thing, when it comes to girls.

Yes, he is a major skirt-chaser, flirting with Garnet, and nearly any other female he can throughout the story at any given moment. He is known for being a hellacious flirt, even angering Ruby, another Tantalus member, for whispering sweet nothings to her and then up and leaving. One thing that is noteworthy because of Zidane's canon point: He won't be chasing skirts like he used to~ Dagger is really the only girl for him C:

Much unlike any of his Final Fantasy predecessors, Zidane is not at all the brooding type. He tends to be very optimistic, as well as free-spirited. Not to mention loud. He also seems to have an energy that people are drawn to. Once they get a taste, it can never be enough. At least that’s what he’s convinced himself of. (Ohoho, this goes double for those fine looking ladies out there. B) )

Zidane keeps a mostly positive attitude, staying in high spirits to keep the group motivation going. He has a deep-set faith in his teammates, encouraging them with things such as life advice and in spirit. He even goes so far as to treat some of them like little siblings, possibly from the camaraderie that comes with Tantalus. This is especially true of Vivi. Cute little bugger was just begging to be a little bro, man.

Finally, Zidane tends to overreact and over exaggerate which can sometimes get him in trouble. Not… that he really minds. He doesn’t, as he prefers excitement, and can’t seem to stay in the same place for long. It is both a blessing and a curse.

ONE MORE THING: Just so people aren't... confused, Zidane isn't actually a monkey-boy. I only call him that as an affectionate nickname. C:

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:
As stated in the personality, Zidane has one of the best hearts he could have, considering his past. He makes friends very quickly, and is very social. And once you're friends with this little bugger, it's hard to get away. He makes friends for life. One of the other things that make him so strong is the immense optimism and determination he carries. Even faced with what seems like an insurmountable task, Zidane puts his game face on, and charges on in. That also kind of rolls into Zidane's compassion for the average joe. His high moral standards (Even though he is a thief) really make him great to be around.

And hey, even if he's not fond of you? He'll still come help out if you need it bro. That's just the time of person he is.

One other thing to mention in the strengths section here... My god, can this monkey charm. He's got a tongue of silver when it comes to most of the ladies. (Though not so much anymore. C: Dagger's the only girl for him!) Still, it's worth mentioning that he has his smooth talking ways.

In combination with these strengths, Zidane is one hell of a good thief. He's great with daggers and quick to boot.

Weaknesses:
In turn with some of his strengths come some very deep-rooted weaknesses. Though Zidane is not thrown off emotionally often, when he is... it hits him like a ton of bricks. A good example of this is when Dagger decided to become Queen and Zidane spent the next... while... getting completely smashed at the bar. Sometimes, Zidane's emotions get the best of him and he ends up charging into something he can't handle. It happens to the best of us. Really.

Other than that, Zidane has, unintentionally, built himself a weakness by allowing certain people to get so close. He will literally do anything for his friends, thus, they kind of... get kidnapped. A lot. |D Zidane is also known to take a shot for a friend or sacrifice his time, energy, what have you, to make sure they're taken care of. In a way, friends are both his greatest strength and greatest weakness.

Physically, since he's a thief, his magic defense is lower than most.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
This app did not have enough innuendos. :|

[ Sample ] :
[Well... What a surprise it was to wake up and see a familiar sea-sky. And be drenched. For the second time. Yeah, there was a familair fairy, and familiar buildings... and that damn coral--sure enough, there it was...]

Looks like you just couldn't get enough of me, huh? Look, you're not the only one, but I was kinda busy you know... Just got back to my Lady...

[Zidane Tribal stood for the second time in this plaza, glancing around.]

Woah, been doin' some redecoratin' or something? [What, with some destroyed buildings from this kraken attack... it looked a little different here]

[The first thing he did was find that SFC device and check the residency list for familiar names. ... Well, there was a good thing or two at least. A few friends he'd made during his time here last time... But no Garnet. His heart did sink a little--he had been enjoying life with his lady when he was whisked away again...]

Well, if that's how it's gotta be...

[With a quick flip, Zidane put the SFC on video and gave a wave and a familiar grin..]

Hey everyone. Guess who just got back. Could use a towel, if someone's got a minute.

[ Questions? Comments? Concerns? ] : I'm assuming it's okay if he keeps his memories of Vat from before? c:

As well, normally Ezio would be listed on my other characters page, but he is absent. I'm planning on sending him back if Zidane gets in ;w; If it's not already done by the time this is read, it will be shortly thereafter.
