My internship at Children's Friend and Service was observing a dietitian give nutritional advice to parents with babies months to 3 years old. They serve the State of RHode Island. I have traveled to the very North of Rhode Island, which I thought I would never do. Seen mansions... what? I didn't know we got down like that... haha. We do home visits... much like a Jehovah's Witness, except JWs don't get paid for gas or our services... lol. I also observed counseling... which is the most depressing thing ever. They also do home visits. Now, I am thinking of going into counseling little kids with play therapy which just requires some extra training so I have been told...
My other internship which is quite short is at Meeting Street. I am only doing it 4 three weeks on Fridays. Basically, I observe the educators in the daycare, preschool and kindergarten setting. I interact with the kids. Or rather they see an adult and automatically want to be picked up or read to by me. HAha... attention seekers that is all. lol. Some of them have special needs. I met for the first time a lil girl with Down Syndrome. SO cute and mischievous!! There are a couple who have cerebral palsy and some other disabilities where they are on a wheel chair and such. And there are normal (whatever normal means) kids too in the classroom which I think is exciting to see... teaches tolerance of others.
I am seeing if it's something I want to do. I am definitely sure that I want to work with children in the future though, but not the school setting. Don't care too much for that.. :) I needed 60 hours for a course I am taking this semester and I have to write a diesel ass paper about my experience.
