i wanted to write something for sunny's birthday, and somehow this is what i ended up with. i blame my true blood withdrawals. (speaking of, this is modeled vaguely on true blood, but you don't need to be familiar with the show to understand what's going on in this.)

universe masterpost Seohyun’s not stupid. She knows exactly what kind of bar this is. And even if she hadn’t known, she would have been able to tell the moment she stepped inside. There’s an electricity to the air here that’s different from most places. Half the patrons are baring as much skin as possible; the other half is looking them up and down like they’re going to devour them whole. Seohyun’s acutely aware of the stares she’s getting, settling heavy on her shoulders.
She jumps when a hand presses lightly to her lower back. “Buy you a drink?” comes a voice from just behind her. She turns and sees a man with black eyes and pale skin giving her a little half-smile.
“I-I’m meeting someone, actually,” she tells him, wincing internally at the stutter. It’s a bad idea to show any weakness in this place.
“You can drink while you wait,” he replies smoothly. Her fingers tighten instinctively on her purse when he smirks. “I won’t bite.”
Seohyun fiddles with the strap of her bag, thinking. After a few moments, she opens her mouth to accept his offer, but then there’s a waft of perfume and cold fingers at her elbow. “Hello, Taesung,” the newcomer says pleasantly. “Thank you for entertaining my date.”
His eyes widen, and he gives a little half-bow. “My apologies. I didn’t realize she was with you.”
The woman waves a hand dismissively. “No harm done.” She leans closer and gives him a conspiratorial wink. “But just to let you know, there’s a university student in the corner who’s been eyeing you since I walked in.” Taesung’s lips quirk at the sides, and he bows again before melting into the crowd. She turns to Seohyun next, letting go of her arm as she does. “You are Seo Joohyun, aren’t you?”
“Uh, yes. Although I go by Seohyun usually.” Seohyun bows politely, trying to regroup. Something about the situation is putting her on edge. “I assume you’re Miss Sunny?”
The giggle Seohyun gets in reply is somehow both fitting and out of place. “Just Sunny, please. But it’s nice to see someone your age being so polite.” There’s a strange lilt to Sunny’s words, similar to the kind of pronunciation Seohyun’s grandmother has. “Would you like to sit down? They keep a booth for me here.”
“Yes, that’d be nice.” Seohyun follows Sunny to a table in the back, dark enough to feel private but not so dark that she feels threatened. “First, let me just say how grateful I am for your help,” she begins once they sit down. “Even though you’ve all been public for two years now, there aren’t many vampires who are willing to give interviews.”
Sunny shrugs. “I was going to be here anyway, I figure I might as well help a girl out. Besides,” she gives Seohyun a cheeky wink, “I like talking about myself.”
“Then let’s start there.” Seohyun switches on her tape recorder. “How old are you?”
“Five hundred this year. This month, actually.” Sunny beckons to a passing staffer. “I’d like a glass of A-positive, if you don’t mind. Seohyun, would you like anything?”
“Er, just water. Why were you turned?”
Sunny curls a lock of hair around her fingers. “There was a Chinese diplomat visiting our court. I befriended his wife, and she ended up siring me.” She smiles. “Well, she’d glamoured him into believing she was his wife. She turned me the day the two of them were supposed to be going back to China so that I could feast on him-ah, thank you.”
Seohyun scribbles a few things on her notepad as Sunny sips at her blood. “What was her name?”
“Song Qian. She was old even back then, by now she’d be ancient.” Sunny hums and stirs her drink thoughtfully. “Beautiful, though. Always has been.”
Seohyun nods and pushes her hair behind her ear. “Were you the only one she ever sired?”
Sunny laughs at that, and Seohyun can’t help the twist of fear she feels when her teeth catch the light. “Of course not. Not after all that time. I know of at least two others.”
“What are their names?”
Sunny pauses for a second. Finally, she asks, “What newspaper do you work for again?”
“The Herald. Here, I can-” Seohyun fishes her business cards out of her bag and presents one to Sunny, who examines it carefully. “I’m sorry, have I done something wrong?”
“No, no. It’s just that when someone takes a particular interest in your lineage, it tends to mean one thing.”
Seohyun blinks. “What’s that?”
Sunny leans in, her words sharp and pointed. “They intend to kill everyone in it.” She holds Seohyun’s gaze for a few long moments, then sits back. “But I know you wouldn’t do that. would you, Seohyun-ah?”
Seohyun hopes her smile isn’t as shaky as it feels. “Of course not.”
“Good.” The polish on Sunny’s nails, Seohyun realizes, is the same color as her drink. “Because I’d hate to get this dress dirty. It’s damn near impossible to get bloodstains out of clothing.”
“You’d know,” Seohyun replies faintly.
“Yes.” Sunny’s eyes glint in the darkness. “I would.”
