So, this show lost me this season. I used to love it. I used to wait for it every week and stay up late to watch it and love every second.
And then this season happened.
I stuck with it up through the episode with all the other "pagan" gods, and then I was so disgusted by that that I didn't watch any more episodes this season. Except last night.
The thing that really bugged me about this season wasn't the race!fail or the gender!fail or all the other fail that there's been for the entire run of the show. What bugged me the MOST was the smug bastard attitude of the writers throughout the whole thing. The entire show has denigrated into mocking itself, mocking the fandom, snide quips and lopsided grins and wink wink, nudge nudge, knowwhatImean? And it got old. REALLY OLD.
Let's be clear: I loved the idea of Chuck the prophet. I loved the idea of the books and ONE episode about the rabid underground fandom for the books would have been awesome. But they just kept coming back to it over and over again, and it was clumsy and stupid. Last night was the icing on the cake. Chuck narrating could have been clever and fun, but instead it came back to the writers grandstanding and mocking the fans, saying they'd never be happy, saying that endings are hard, so don't get your hopes up. That is LAZY. LAZY WRITING.
Bringing Bobby and Castiel back like that was LAZY WRITING and it made me think they figured out at the last second that they were going to get another season and WHOOPS! Better not kill off the WHOLE cast!
Clearly, it made me a little capslocky with impotent rage. ;)
The actual story? I... didn't really care about. I am so over Sam and Dean mooning over each other and being emo, I was kind of relieved that it was over.
I guess, suffice to say, I will not be watching next season. I don't like it when shows bust down the fourth wall on a regular basis; it makes me uncomfortable. I don't like lazy writing. And frankly, I don't think they have any more stories to tell.
WOW. I had a lot more to say about that than I thought. Sorry if I harshed anybody's squee!
