Hemingway is depressing

I'm reading "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway right now, and in the first 60 pages it seems to be a bit depressing. Similar (so far) in spirit to F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," it talks about the trevails of the rich and upper-crust, and their fairly empty lives. Focusing in on sitiuations similar to their real-life experiences, as American and British expatriates in Paris, struggling to write and survive a genius. Good, but not extraordinarily great so far. We'll have to keep reading to find out...
