[ic] [Ash] Awkward Phone Calls

Jun 03, 2011 05:35

The combination of lingering jet-lag and an impressive amount of sleeping pills to avoid the onslaught of nightmares had left Lacroix blissfully dead to the world for several hours. He very rarely slept deeply, or well, but drugged enough he could pass out for long enough to feel rested, and that had been his plan the evening following the trip to the catacombs with Ash; too paranoid to let those uneasy feeling bleed over into bad dreams, it had seemed like the best answer.
Besides, it was still a bit strange sharing a bed with another person, it was something that Lacroix had never personally done in the past so being too tired to stay awake and debate if there was anything awkward in the idea made his life so much easier. A few more nights like that and he was bound to be comfortable with the familiarity of the concept, he just really had not wanted to wake up having a panic attack and freak Ash out.

His side of the bed was a mass of blankets and pillows, all of which he had buried himself under heedless of the warm weather as the instinct to burrow to get comfortable was just too strong in the large, soft space. It really was a comfortable bed, and big enough to not need to worry about falling off the side or rolling over and smacking Ash upside the head in his sleep, or at least hopefully not; that was of course always a risk.

Finding his way back to the world of the living proved to be more of a problem.

The heavy curtain of sleep had weighed down on him and left Lacroix mentally foggy, long after he was alone in the bed and the morning had crested into full light; but behind his shut eyelids it was dark and that was all that mattered.

Annoyingly though, something was buzzing.

At first he thought nothing of it, lost in sleep, but once the noise continued and the was joined by a sharp sound that he recognized as a dog sleep became impossible. In part because he was used to grabbing his own phone when it rang, quickly, and also since the bark of a dog was such an odd sound to wake to for him personally; Lacroix was groggy and confused at first when he had begun to stir.
With that haze still in place inside his brain he wasn't sure where he was, where the barking came from and what was going on. In gradual degrees his thoughts barely cleared, reminding him that he wasn't at home; he was on the other side of the world and the dog barking belonged to Ash...who was currently missing from bed. A sluggish glance at the clock on the bedside table told him why; it was fairly late in the morning and he must have slept longer than intended.

The phone, however, was still buzzing; and in his disconnected state Lacroix felt around for the device shuffling under the covers with his eyes shut once more while he felt around for the source of the sound. Not in the bed, no, he finally felt the buzzing phone under his fingertips on the table next to the bed; and it didn't sink in that he had picked up Ash's phone at first because in that hazy state he simply wanted the noise to stop.

"Hello?" His voice held a sleepy edge as he mashed the button and answered, yawning and pulling the cover back over his head; Lacroix fully expected to hear Hector's voice on the line, thinking it was his own phone.
