just a poem for you, who i love very dearly.
fallout / fall in
we've been given this it was unwrapped
it has been had still it is ours to share
and shall we love it any less?
this battered orb this shattered heart
sometimes give frightful creaking sounds
somewhere rusty lies there imitating fate
beneath a gleaming surface thin as paint
lifeless and thick-skinned as tar newly issued
with failed rivets popping out just down the hold
the unspeakable pressures rumbling uncouthly
from unspoken depths
tickling the rough and callous feet of the dead in spite
rolling eyes at the life still somewhat bequeathed to us
we who want to put your shiny-shoe'd step back in
or else some bright-eyed innocence that's flown
is this your unvoiced wish?
is this your goal while still unstated and unknown?
it seems there is no room
inside of you
though we find you here as anywhere
dancing on empty
propping up booms and timbers you have felled
to pocket fresh bundles of faded dreams
the stars you knew so well have drifted from view
or else have drifted you
it's time
to gather up strength
perhaps from the snow
perhaps from within
is patience working busily
and without showing tears?
of course i see the hurt
it stains me too
who covers up your sense of loss?
who whispers things you ought not hear?
it always falls on those who must observe
the sweeping up of pastel-coloured shards
we who are sifting and sorting
we who are pinning and stitching
fighting to piece things back
together in time
is it fairer that one sad song should ensue
than all the brighter ones love has intended?
where are all the king's men now?
are we not all patching up eggshell?
it won't be long now love
you've got the cornerstones down
dreams find their true way home
like strong and free emerging from hurt
sure as wild horses and white roses
even from such precious space
as that between the welded plates
