I misremembered. It was never necessary to give Heather the note. It's attached to this.
I thought at the time that since nothing happened, the island must not plan to return us at all. I thought that it was possible that we are copies of some other beings in some other world, or that they are copies in our stead, or that we aren't real at all.
While this note addressed my disappearance, I had always thought that the future was more fragile. Making Heather and Sanaki disappear is an entirely possible solution. I believe that two weeks is too long to prove any solid connection. But you're right -- we should keep it in mind.

Ike, I am unable to talk to you at present. Before this happened, I was engaged in an experiment to test the limits of this island's gods. I asked this woman to tell me all she could from our future.
There are a number of problems with time travel. For example, should she have told me that Daein would attack at Such-and-Such Pass on some date and defeat us, and I returned with this knowledge, I would know of this ambush. We may find victory instead. Should this victory ironically end in her death, she would never have been able to tell us about this battle. The entire situation would be impossible, and the effect on our world, the nature of existence, is unpredictable.
By taking us from a number of points in time, the island must have something in mind that still maintains the stability of existence. The unfortunate incident that happened to me is its solution. Pass on this information to only those that you trust with it.
