Solitude, Gilbert could do well, sometimes. He could sit in the chair by his window, leaning against the sill and staying half-aware of the warmth coming up from the room's heater, and stare outside until the sun set. He could pore over a book that only half-interested him, sprawled on the bed in his night-clothes, and let his mind dance through ( Read more... )

Unlike the other students, Rosemarine was allowed to roam the halls during class. It was one of the privileges of authority, it seemed. During said roaming, he stumbled upon... oh, look who it is. What a surprise.

Just to show how pleased he was to see him, he delivered a violent blow to Gilbert's leg using his cane. "Out and about again, I see."

The hallway was quiet enough that Gilbert hadn't missed the sounds of Rosemarine's approach. He'd heard them and had even thrust his head to one side to stare, blond hair tossing back across one shoulder as his eyes fixed on the older student. Was he paying rapt enough attention to spot that strike from the cane before it landed, though? Not by a mile - the youth was too busy curling a lip to dodge, and it hit sharply.

"A-ah..."

Gilbert stifled the sound that inevitably ran up his throat and did his best to only stagger a step or so backwards. The leg that had been hit stayed bent somewhat, leaving his posture set in an awkward mid-limp position. Still, he tried to sound oh-so-sweet, as he demurred:

"You, too. Did you not like the reading in your Latin class, today?"

Ah, the sight of him in pain. Moments like these made Rosemarine appreciate his job more.

His lip twitched in disgust at the pathetic come back, but that was pretty brief because his expression returned to the usual, confident smirk, of course, his hand clutching his cane tightly.

"Should I assume you were too busy to pay attention to the rules? Or did you intentionally ignore them to get punished?" It was neither, he knew, but he just enjoyed mocking him.
