Spencerific!

Feeling so lethargic. I gave lab meeting today and I'm sort of all tired out now. Which is kinda sad, since it didn't really amount to a very impressive presentation and I haven't done much else today. *sigh* Oh, and I stupidly got confused and missed the registration date for the next paper based GRE (it's in March, rather than April), so I've sort of peremptorily made the decision to not take it by my own disorganization. D'oh.

I've picked out the spencer I'm going to make to go with my gown.

[HaHA! Costuming ADD! No one can escape it!]

I'm planning for it to resemble the yellow spencer worn in the Molland's scene of Persuasion with the stand up collar. Ideally, I'd make it a brown or a dark color, but I dunno. Maybe a dusty blue? I have extremely pink/ivory coloring (being a redhead and all....stupid Scottish genes), so I look best in earth and heather tones. Making it an acid yellow or green is just asking for trouble. I think velvet/velveteen is the way to go, but I've got several stumbling blocks to get over before I find fabric:

1. I do not order fabric from online: a.) No credit card b.) I must sensorially experience fabric before I approve of buying it (unless it's 100% white cotton muslin) c.) I am a Luddite at heart and do not trust the Intarweb and eCommerce.
2. I rarely make it up to fabric stores in SF.
3. JoAnn's is so CRAPPY.

With my limited horizons, it's a wonder I costume at all.

So....I'm on the lookout. I mean, I'm not completely committed to the velvet idea, so maybe something else will catch my eye. I'm getting close to being sick of embroidery, so maybe I'll try whipping up a mock-up for a change of pace. My goal for this spencer is nice tailoring, so it'll be two projects in one, really: historical and technical.

Woo.

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all.
