I wake and leave without hardly a sound. A sign on his door tells me he is already downstairs. From there we walk through London under skies that promise snow. The underground is chilled and sleepy in its Easter wake. At Victoria station I make my last purchase in pounds - coffee and pain au chocolat with hazelnut too. I consume both on an express train south where we speak excitedly of a road trip through Canada and the Eastern US. We have been talking about this trip since July. This time, perhaps, it will happen. We move quickly through check-in, security, to the gate, where we wait for our last trip.
