I actually read the book when I was back at UMBC and remember it as being okay. The first half of it is basically about people going blind, and then the government panics and quarantines them all in an old mental institution. Then, after a few days they stop sending in supplies and stuff, not because the government is teh evil, but because the blindness has spread to the point that the original quarantine site has been forgotten amid the mass hysteria. Oh, man, good point! Wouldn't it be better if all the blind people were automatically good? That would be much more fair and accurate. Ugh. One of the first thing I thought when I read this article was, "Man, I bet they're really bummed about losing the blind dollar." The whole boycott is even more ridiculous because one of their big complaints is that they are afraid that the negative public view of the blind will keep them from getting jobs, and they even mention that there is something like a 70% unemployment rate among the blind. So the whole boycott thing is sort of like if I were to declare that I was boycotting Audis because I think that the CEO is an asshole. I don't neccessarily have the money for an Audi, so who really cares?
