So I've effectively avoided any and all "Christmas cheer" on campus, and to tell the truth, I do not think I missed much. The people in town have slipped from their throne of crazed euphoria to a more sullen, depressing state. I believe it has something to do with high credit card bills or "debts", whatever all those are. Why do people owe so much ( Read more... )

A whole cake wasted?! I hope you were able to get a new one!

Yes, they broke my cake. I was quite disappointed. I've never had cake before, and was anxious to try it. And no, I didn't buy a new one. I was angry, and came home.

Now I want cake, though. Or I think I do. Have you been acquianted with cake?

Eh?! No cake, not ever? You must, must try it! It's one of the most delicious things in the whole wide world and there's so many different kinds!

The one I had was called... "Peanut Butter Fudge Crunch". The female at the counter said I should try the iced cream of the same name. I took note of that.

What kinds of cake have you tried? Have you tried iced cream too?

That sounds good! I've never had it before.

Oh, I've tried lots! Shortcake, mint chocolate, raspberry and vanilla - oh, oh! And the kind that has rainbow frosting! That one was expensive, but it was so pretty! I almost didn't want to eat it. I think it had ice cream in it, though.

Me either, for obvious reasons.

Shortcake? Why is it called that? Is there a long cake? Do pastries come in different sizes, as clothes do? Small, medium, large... I wonder what I'm supposed to have.

I want to try this rainbow frosting. Did you get that cake around here?

I don't know why they call it that, but it's got a strawberry on top! I always eat that first. Those sorts of good things come in all kinds of sizes. Some are huge! I even saw a gingerbread house as big as a whole dining room table once. Then there are really tiny ones that are just one mouthful. Yum! You can have any kind you want!

No, I got it at home with my friends, but I'm sure we can find some! Or, um, make it?

Well, I know I like strawberries. I was eating them in the fruit market until the fat man in the apron threw me out. Tch. I was "sampling" or whatever. This giganic gingerbread house... it was a home made of cake? Is this a normalcy in this realm, to constuct homes out of confections?

I can make cake? I thought I could only purchase them. Do you know how to do it?

People don't actually live in them, but there's a fairytale about a mean old witch who had house made of sweets. She lured children in with it and then gobbled them up after getting them fat! Scary!

No, no! You can make cake, if you want. I sort of know... my friend tried to teach me, and my mama, but I wasn't very good at it.

That's a good way to lure children somewhere semi-dangerous. I'll have to keep it in mind... Oho, yes. Scary indeed! How utterly barbaric.

You "sort of" know? If I give you currency, could you try to make me one? Or show me how to do it myself?

Well, I guess I could try to show you! That way you can make cake whenever you want some. How about in return, we go to the pastry shop in town and have some shortcake sometime?

That sounds acceptable, and I will purchase "shortbreads" for you in return for your teachings. I believe that would be the proper thing to do.

It's rare I get to go somewhere without my siblings. Not that their company is a hindrance, mind you, but it's good to meet new people. So... thank you... I think. Yes.
