First day on the job, it went better than expected. All of my co-workers are pretty damn cool, especially this dude Mark who I was working with the majority of the day, just one of those really cool down to earth people that you meet once in a great while. Initially when I arrived I was working with this guy Jason, who was quite the arrogant fellow, and a bit of a braggart. He was explaining to me about his 300 gallon reef tank that literally sustained itself without him doing a damn thing, but to top off the water that evaporates and feed the livestock once a month (that part I can believe). And then he proceeds to tell me how he lost sixty-thousand dollars worth of livestock after his dad fed the fish because he thought they looked hungry, which in turn throws off the precious ecosystem which Jason's expertise had established. Sixty-thousand-fucking-dollars?! Fucking please! I wasn't born yesterday! What could this individual possibly trying to get across, that he has sixty-thousand dollars to invest in a fish tank but still works at Petco? I don't get it.
On the topic of people taking the new guy for a sucker:
I have no idea how to collect a sea anenome for a customer, if there's any special thing I'm supposed to look out for, etc. So while I leave the floor to ask a co-worker for assistance the customer takes the liberty of collecting it himself, and throws in a smaller anenome in with it, thinking that I won't notice. And when I ask him what else it is he put in there, he plays stupid, and pretends he doesn't know what it is. I came to the conclusion that it was just a smaller version of the of larger anenome that he put in, and then he agreed to pay for it. Anyhow, fuck people for taking me for an idiot just because I'm new.
Anyways, just about all the other customers I helped today were pretty polite.
