“This is going to look totally amazing.”
Poland, with his hands on his hips and a gleam in his eye, looked ready to take on the world. Which went a little overboard for just wanting to paint a room. But that was Poland. Lithuania, on the other hand, just sighed and looked around the spacious room. It was one of the bigger guest rooms and out of all the things Poland made him do, painting was the thing he hated most. It was tiring and boring. You just stood there and painted and by the time you were done, all you had was a painted room and Lithuania didn’t care too much if a guest room looked fabulous or not.
“Liet, you like, aren’t even smiling. This is supposed to be exciting and you aren’t smiling! Totally a downer.” Poland had the nerve to pout. Looking like somebody had just kicked a puppy or killed something cute.
“I’m sorry I don’t find painting a fun way to spend my day.” He was being sarcastic as he usually did when his seemingly never-ending pool of patience finally ran dry.
“It’s totally okay. I forgive you.”
…Of course, Lithuania thought. Of course. A part of him had actually been expecting something like that--
--but he did not expect cold, pink paint hitting his cheek with Poland looking anything but innocent with a paintbrush in his hand.
“Gotcha.” Poland’s grin had the effect it always did with Lithuania. It made him both smile back and want to wrestle Poland down to the floor and make that damned smile go away. Which was what he did. Smile back and jump onto Poland, his partner’s giggles being the only thing he could hear as he tried to pin Poland down. He was all flailing arms and legs as he giggled and Lithuania laughed with him.
His laughing stopped and he squawked suddenly when he felt a hand on his ass squeeze and his attention went elsewhere as he was the one flipped and pinned down. The way Poland looked at him was anything but innocence. The grin--almost the same one from before-- looked just a little too happy and Lithuania wouldn’t admit he liked the way it looked on Poland’s face and the way it made him look so animated. That it was worth losing their impromptu wrestling match to see it again.
“Gotcha. Again,” Poland murmured as he let go of Lithuania’s arms so he wouldn’t start to feel anxious. It was something not a lot of people would take notice of, but to Lithuania, it made his day complete. That Poland would do such small things just for him and his comfort even though Lithuania knew how selfish Poland could be. He had lied, the grin hadn’t been worth losing the wrestling match, this small act of kindness was it. Maybe he was just a sap, but it was just moments like this he always knew why he stayed with Poland and why he meant so much to him.
“I guess you did,” was all Lithuania said as he sighed and put his arms behind his head with a relaxed smile.
Poland laughed once more. “You’re like, so bad at this!”
“You cheated,” Lithuania reminded. “I was winning.”
“Whatever.” Poland flipped his hair idly and looked around the room. “Whatever helps you sleep at night because we both totally know I won fair and square. If anybody cheated, it was so you with that delicious ass.” Lithuania groaned and covered his face with his hands. At least nobody had heard him say that. “But now I don’t even want to paint anymore. I’m totally done with that scene.”
Poland probably wouldn’t have painted at all and probably would have left it all for Lithuania to do. Lithuania didn’t bother to mention this. If it got him off of painting today, then he wasn’t going to complain.
“Well, if that’s what you want--” He stopped when he noticed how Poland was looking at him. “Um, Poland? Why are you looking at me like that?”
Poland’s grin had come back, but this time, it wasn’t something that Lithuania wanted to see because this time, it made Poland look like the Cheshire Cat and Lithuania had never really liked him.
“You are totally an inspiration, Liet.” He put his fingers on the smudge of pink paint on Lithuania’s face and nodded. “Pink lilies. All around the house. Wouldn’t that look amazing? Like everybody would look at our place and be all ‘Oh my God! This is the best house ever!’”
Flowers? Gardening? Today was a little muggy and it wasn’t that great a day to garden.
“Poland--”
Poland got off of Lithuania and stood up, looking excited once again and still grinning, looking at Lithuania and Lithuania knew exactly what was going to happen.
“Let’s get to the flower shop,” he groaned while he stood up. He wasn’t even going to argue it. Arguing would definitely do him no good and Poland would take underhanded, puppy dog eye tactics at this point.
Poland wrapped his arms around Lithuania and gave him a casual kiss that ended too quickly. “You’re so amazing, Liet. Seriously. Totally mean it.”
It was small things like this, like Poland trying to make Lithuania more comfortable and just giving him a real smile and telling him he was amazing that made the other annoying things completely worth it.
