Upcoming Trans Stuff

Nov 14, 2007 18:21

There's a lot going on in the next week. First of all, the DC Transgender Day of Remembrance will be this Tuesday the 20th from 6 to 8 at the Whitman-Walker Clinic (14th and S St., NW). For those who don't know, on this day we raise awareness about violence and hate crimes against trans people and remember those trans people who have been killed violently.

On Monday the 19th, George Washington Univeristy is hosting a panel about transgender issues to raise awareness about the Day of Remembrance. I'll be participating representing the DC Trans Colition. So come watch all you GW people! The panel will be held at 8pm in Marvin Center (the corner of I & 21st, NW) room 402.

On Friday the 16th, HIPS (Helping Individual Prostitutes Survive), a group which helps many trans and cisgendered prostitutes, is having a Carnivale fundraiser. More information can be found here: http://www.hips.org/ It looks fun! I'd definitely go if I wan't going to be at InterCon.

Finally, the DC Metropolitan Police have implemented new policies and rules regarding trans people. The DC Trans Coalition commented and participated in the drafting process, so the policies largely reflect a number of our demands. Anyway, the policy can be seen here: http://newsroom.dc.gov/show.aspx/agency/mpdc/section/4/release/12001/year/2007
