My friend Heather had her baby today! Or is currently in the process of having said baby; the last I heard was that they were inducing labor after her water broke around noon today. (ETA: currently still having baby, so far everything's fine)

The baby shower is/was supposed to be this Saturday. I knitted a few things for her (including the red devil/kitty from a previous post). Also there's a really lame yellow and white pillow thing and a sickeningly cute blue bunny thing (I'll take pics before I give them to her and I'll post them then). I'm not sure if they'll still have the shower this weekend. Mother and baby should be out of the hospital by then, but who knows.

So, I went to the drug store this evening to buy a baby card. Unfortunately, they were all so cutesy I couldn't bring myself to buy one. (Our friends are quite a bit like us, and not so into the cute). I had been toying with this idea for a card to make, so I decided to go ahead with it.

Heather's favorite (or at least one of her favorites) book is Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, and she got me into the trilogy. As I'm sure all of you know, the Wicked Witch of the West (aka Elphaba) is green. What people that haven't read Wicked don't know (and it doesn't count if you've seen the musical, since they changed this), but her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East (Nessarose) was born without arms. So, Wicked's sisters plus my awesome Gimp skills turned into this card:

(The actual card is laid out like a normal card. The picture is on the front and the text is inside, but this looks a lot better to be shown online.)

Unfortunately, my printer is complete shite. Aside from taking 10 minutes to process each side of the card (so 20 minutes wait time total), the color in the picture's kinda stripey. If I had any chance of using a better printer to print it out, I would, but I don't :(

But fuck it. I love it anyway XD And now I have to make sure the card doesn't get messed up before Saturday. And if you've ever seen my house, you'll know why this could be an issue.

While I'm here, let me just say if you haven't read Wicked, you suck go read it!
