Over the past couple of weeks, I've made a few musical discoveries with the help of people like
itchy_ishida and
abeilledeverte. After being sucked into Metalocalypse, my love for metal reignited. I've been craving it: the clean guitar, lyrics being growled to me, the constant tap of the drums...all things that combine and create metal. It's fusion, cohesion, something to be amazed at. And with the aid of someone's Last.fm, I've been able to pick and choose who to listen to.
Next stop: Gorillaz. I'll start by saying that I love Damon Albarn. I have since before I knew who Blur was. Anything he touches is golden, and therefore, I love it. I'll follow up with the fact that I love the idea of fictional bands. Especially when the creators go through lengths to make the creations seem more realistic, such as putting out books about them, and DVDs, and scheduling live performances that really leave nothing to be desired. Mmm, Gorillaz. And LOLZ @ Murdoc's Flying V.
Continuing on, VNV Nation. They're tagged as industrial, but I'm not really feeling that. For me, they're like a beautiful blend of VAST and Tool. Freakin' awesome. I can't really begin to describe how happy listening to a track like Genesis makes me, but suffice to say, I really like it.
I've rekindled my love affair with Phil Collins, too. Something about the Tarzan soundtrack makes a wave of calm settle over me. I laugh, I cry, and I love the music. It's something in the way Mr Collins writes his songs that does it to me every time.
Also, Alice Cooper has the best version of Because (originally by the Beatles). And the Bee Gees did my favorite version of She's Leaving Home that I've heard yet. Something about robot girls and visuals to match the lyrics.
Maybe some day, I'll be able to put into words how music makes me feel...
