Just PAY for it!

I am opening a can of worms here, and this is probably going to be one of those posts where the ground is scorched and no one says anything afterwards, but I don't give a shit. I'm fed up.

NOTE: This is not directed specifically at anyone. Especially you, Jason... of course you had to post something about it right when I was working up a post ( Read more... )

We sort of need to make some new rules for a new world. capybyra November 12 2007, 03:32:22 UTC
I followed you home from madameenilef.

YOUR comment about "not having to steal" indeed does have merit.
Just in an application both Anathema to the "Stasis Quo" of our world and potentially overturning the established orders.
There's no apologia for taking valued items another should be paid for.
So why does an industry's smarmy weaselworded foundation of blatant misappropriations incarnate DARE presume to call "legitimate trade" theft? Merely for not enriching them! Or is their Imprimatur now a shibboleth?
I for one prefer seeing the artist get their due. A street busker getting my handful of change for their horn solo on Shattuck Ave in Berkeley means more to me than a MTV star getting .3 cents from each 100 Itunes.
For honesty's sake, let's get our heads into what's really afoot..

Forgive my appearing to preach in your courtyard-

But YOU are one who might agree to a more noble worldview.

You are commenting on Theft Vs Payment. I am commenting on the right parties getting paid. Those who sweat blood to sing for us. And Die BROKE.
Oh, yeah- we "bought some records/cd's/tapes" but what did the artist get?

OF THE 99 CENTS FOR A DOWNLOAD HOW MUCH DOES THE ARTIST GET?

If we can make enough of our discretionary spending on music go to the talent and teach the industry to follow that model? sigh- we can dream eh?

I can agree. Even when people do try to do the "right" thing (as defined by the RI/MPAA, who are certainly suspect) the actual artist that created the content gets hardly any money at all. So, really, what the hell is the point if they don't even get much money from it? A shame.
