Big Plans

So I was talking to Charlotte earlier, which was awesome, and we were talking about travelling. She might be heading, from Switzerland, to America, for a holiday with her host family. As if going to Switzerland, again, for a year isn't enough. She also might be going to Norway, and has been to Germany and has driven through France. I'm so jealous. I'd give almost anything to have the money and the freedom to travel the world.

It got me thinking about the things I want to do, not just in this year, but before I settle down and stuff. I'm not going to say get married and have kids because I really don't know if that's what I want to do.

At the moment, I want to go to Brisbane to see Melissa, and then to Sydney to see a friend down there. I want to go to New Zealand, because Drena lives over there and I've always wanted to go because it just looks so beautiful. I'd love to go to Europe, though that's not really as urgent as going to New Zealand because that's somewhere I really, really want to go. And it's not that far away. I was thinking of saving money now, but then I realised that there's so much that I want to do that isn't quite as big as jumping on a plane and going overseas.

First of all I need to buy textbooks for uni this year. That's the number one big lot of money to be spent. I'm not sure how much they'll be, but I don't need to buy one for my psych unit because it's the same one as the one I used last year. Then I want to buy a camera. I want to go to TAFE and do a photography course, but only if I can get it on Centrelink (meaning I only have to pay around $50) and only if it's part time so that I'm not interfering with working through the week, which I'm going to try to do. I also had a thought today that I would like to go back to singing, but I'm not sure if I want to go to the Con, because I'm not really sure if I can or if I even want to fork out near $30 for a half hour lesson. I know there are other places in town, but the Con is the best and that's all you hear about really. I'd love to go back to singing, and to be good enough and enthusiastic enough to perform at places, but that lady there just drives me crazy. Maybe I'll ask for a different teacher. Maybe I'll look elsewhere. I had a thought while we were at the concert on Saturday night that I would give anything to be able to be on stage. But I can't play an instrument, and have just fought with the only person I know that can play one. I don't mind though, I don't think I'll be on stage any time soon. And I do have a guitar and a keyboard, so I could learn...

I'm thinking I might be quite busy this year. I have some big plans. Uni, work, photography, singing and trips to Brisbane and Sydney, all in the next few months. Not sure if I can pull it off really. Plus Mark and I really want to get out of this house and into our own flat. I don't know if that's going to happen, because Mark is hardly working at the moment and doesn't appear to be getting any more shifts as the weeks go on. He's applied for a trainee managers position, and if he doesn't get that he's going to start looking for a new job. I don't really want to work more hours, especially if I'm going to study at both TAFE and uni, but if I have to I might. That might just mean less going out and less being at home. We're thinking of looking for someone to share a flat with. Andie is moving in with her boyfriend, but doesn't want to share, which is fair enough I guess. Kayla's boyfriend said we should move in with them, but they're moving into a house in an undesirable area, and Kayla is due to have her baby in around five months, and I'm pretty sure they'd want their privacy. It's bad enough living with people sometimes, let alone raising a child when all me and Mark will be doing is what we usually do; work, sit around, drink, have sex and fight. That's not what they're going to want for their baby, and I don't want to live with another baby. My brother annoys me enough as it is. I am so not a child person right now. Everyone else I know either lives with their partner or parents or is happily by themselves. Caleb and Alissa have broken up but are still living together, and if Caleb hadn't spoken to me like he did yesterday we might have found someone to move in with, but whatever, he was an asshole and I don't like assholes.

I have also briefly thought about getting a new job. There's nothing really wrong with this job, except I'm over being on the front end. I'm thinking I'll go to the bake house, because I've been in there a few times and have enjoyed it. Once I get my licence early starts won't be a problem for anyone else and I really am quite happy to do them, as long as I can finish early-ish as well. I'm going to ask to be put into the smokeshop, but I don't really see that happening, which is unfortunate because I'm a good, hard worker who will always put in the work to get things done. That and I can handle the responsibility. I thought I proved that that day I had a shift in there but maybe I didn't. I'm thinking I just need a change of scenery, because I don't want to go and get another job. I have a good set up there, I can work pretty flexible hours and it's not a nine to five set up, which would drive me crazy. It sucks having to work weekends, but I'm going to try to get out of that. I'm happy to do long hours, but just not all at once and not all on weekends. I've had that contract for nearly a year now, and I haven't complained yet, so hopefully they'll give me a new one. If not then I'm out of there and onto some other department who will. I don't want an office job, because I would go crazy doing the same thing every day. It has the perks of weekends off, but I don't want every weekend off. The only other job I can think of that would suit me would be in a clothes store, but I'd want more hours because the pay might not be as good.

I really do have big plans for this year. I'm going to be happy and go out and have some fun. Things with Mark are going pretty good at the moment, and as far as I know he's not protesting the idea of going and seeing Melissa too much, which is a good thing. Things with Alissa aren't going to be happening, as they weren't that likely in the first place, but now that all this stuff has happened with them, I'm not bothered trying to make an effort with people who aren't willing to reciprocate that effort. I just want to go out and have some fun and potentially make some new friends along the way. I don't want to spend nearly $100 on drinks like I did on Saturday night though! Nah I'm not really sure how much I spent.

I want to save some money, as well as spend it on constructive things, like a camera and maybe renting a house, even though Mum thinks that's a stupid idea. She tells me I should save up to put a deposit on a house and buy one, but in all honesty, I really don't want to own a house, ever. Maybe that'll change one day, but seeing as I'm planning on travelling, and I'm not sure that I want to stay here, there's really no point in thinking of buying a house. Renting is not necessarily more expensive and maybe it's the better deal for me. I really badly want to buy a camera, and will need one if I do photography. There are also some other things that I want to spend money on, like singing if I decide to go back, and anything else like that.

I'm thinking I might like the idea of being busy and always having something to do. I want to be that person who is studious and works enough to get the things she wants, but also has time to go out with friends and have a good time. I guess maybe Melissa will be my role model, because she always had plenty to do, and seemed really pleased with the way that her life was going. And maybe if I'm busy I can help Mark to get healthy and active. We're eating healthier already. And I know that when I have things to do I tend to get other things done as well, and I really need to get into the studying routine quickly this year because I've got a bigger work load. And I want to help get this house tidied up, even if I do want to move out.

So, finally, here's to 2008 and all of the big plans that I have. I hope I can make them all work out.

hopes and dreams, work, my future, money matters, nikki
