Sometimes he felt like a masochist. That’s what it was like to be in love, he supposed; especially with SeungRi. Or maybe Youngbae was too caring or too worried or just too far in it all to look back anymore. There was something about caring for a person so much that it hurt, that that protective sense got in the way of every little thing until you couldn’t help but think you were the one causing all the problems and pain. That was how Youngbae felt anytime SeungRi wasn’t happy with anything.
It tore into the older boy and left his heart in blood red shreds wrapped in pure white bed sheets. And no matter how much he tried, the crimson blossomed through until nothing was pure anymore. Before, he had been happy. Now he was happy, too, but in such a completely dependent sense. Tagging along on the roller coaster of of SeungRi’s emotions. Smiling when SeungRi smiled, crying when SeungRi cried, and blaming himself when SeungRi couldn’t.
But it was quiet for now, which left Youngbae feeling relieved and scared all mixed up together. He and SeungRi were sitting in the back of the group van, hands intertwined gently and held tight. In front of them, Jiyong and Seunghyun were getting into some silly little fight poking each other and snickering and the maknae was leaning back against Youngbae, head dropping lightly and hair hidding sleep-shut eyes.
Youngbae stared forward, looking at the reflection in the rear view mirror and studying the scene so intently. He wasn’t sure why he held so tight to the younger boy after all this, all the cheating and fooling around and running off, but then Youngbae was never sure why he did anything when it came to SeungRi. Over time he just hated every little thing, wondering and yelling about why SeungRi did it. What he’d done to make SeungRi stray again. And somehow things would just fall into a mess and slowly, like now, they’d have to find a silent ground between them where all the shit was just left to fall back away again. Denying SeungRi was just so damn hard, and it hurt so much more than anything SeungRi ever did.
