Aaaaaaand we're back!

Hiatus much? That's an understatement. I toyed with the idea of posting everything that's happened since my last entry but decided that would just be too much to type and I'm not trying to burn myself out on my first entry.

Currently I'm not up to too much - looking for a job and enjoying the domestic life in the mean time. Tomorrow is my cousin Tori's and Aunt's birthday (mother and daughter born on the same day not so uncommon in my family - my father, grandfather, and great grandfather were all born on March 3). Anyways, I'm going to attempt to make a Red Velvet Cake. I do consider myself a somewhat decent (read: kickass) cook, but everyone I've talked to tells me that I'm insane for considering baking this cake. We'll see. If it's a success I'll post pictures. If not I'll just edit this entry (haha.. kidding!). In addition to the cake I'll be baking danish wedding cookies and halloween-themed sugar cookies for a couple of care packages I'm sending out.

As far as knitting goes I'm currently working on an entrelac scarf (pattern from the entrelac tutorial from interweave press, available here). I'll track down my digital camera and start posting progress on here as soon as possible. Speaking of yarn, my newly acquired kitten has fallen in love with my yarn collection... it can accomodate all his moods! Sweet? He snuggles with it. Frisky? He makes sweet kitty love to it. Psychotic? Twirls in the yarn until he gets tangled and has freak out attacks where he attempts to eat the entire ball of yarn in one bite. It's been kind of fun smuggling a kitten (my great grandmother doesn't want any animals in her house... little does she know she is secretly living with not one, but two (!!!) cats haha). Sometimes this entails pulling Tom Clancy-esque moves like shoving kittens through windows and daringly risque moves like having a kitten riding shotgun in your winter coat as you enter the house. All in good fun!

Other than that not too much is going on. Might be going to the Celtic Women concert this weekend if my dad can clear his schedule. Been slowly but surely decorating for Halloween (damn, I really need to find that camera)! Just finished reading a pretty kickass book: Of Bees and Mist. Highly recommended. It's an odd style of writing, like a mix between Jane Austen/Charles Dickens, Grimm fairie tales, and John Connolly. To be honest I never quite settled on whether the time period was Victorian, 1930'sish, or modern day but it just completely immerses you into this world and spellbounds you. I found myself saying "I'll just read one more chapter" over and over until I looked at the clock and it was 2 am. Since then I've started The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole - felt like something gothic and figured 'why not start with the birth of the gothic novel?'

Anyways I'll go ahead and wrap this up. Gotta hit the road and pick up a top secret cat :3

New layout to come...!
