Ugh I am so tired. It's one in the morning and I did sleep from 7pm til 11.30pm... but that still doesn't make up for the lack of sleep, last-minute essay research and excess caffeine exhaustion effects I have. Whine whine. But my essay's in. Let's hope it wasn't too disasterous.

I was writing on Naked Lunch,, by William Burroughs. The Beats are a group I've somehow bypassed since becoming interested in literature, but not any more. Their (or at least Burroughs') world vision is still very relevant today, I think.

Of course, in the spirit of a true procrastinator, I've managed to waste a lot of time, play DS games, eat too much salty food, think about tattoos and Google image search the Beats, then Beatniks.

I'm not entirely sure how it came about, but I ended up with pictures of Jean Seberg, who in my mind is jaw-dropping gorgeous.

It's funny how something that starts out as a literary or somewhat political movement gets assimilated into popular culture, like this great picture simply titled 'Miss Beatnik 1959".

Well that's that for now. I have more reading on Adorno for tomorrow, although I'll have to weigh this up against baking biscuits for a friend's birthday!

beatnik, picture of the day, jean seberg, beat generation, essays
