I wanted to post this on Facebook, but I think then everyone would just hate me. Hooray for best friends who don't judge, or are more open-minded.
How about we, as Americans, have a little compromise? If we're going to let gay people get married, then we also need to ban abortion. This should most definitely be written as a law where one thing must necessarily co-exist with the other. Otherwise where are all the babies going to come from for the happy gay couples to raise? Supply and demand people, supply and demand.
No, but in all seriousness, I'm not sure how sterilization and abortifacents could be logically mandated to be covered under "health"care. My line of reasoning assumes that the goal of healthcare is to keep/make people healthy. This may be a faulty assumption, and I recognize this. In a perfect world, that would, however, be the goal of healthcare. The whole issue of the small person at stake in abortion aside, the mandate effectively says it is "healthy" to destroy functionality of one of your body systems, therefore it should be covered. I think that all the systems of our body should be functional. Call me crazy, but there is probably some reason our species has evolved to include all the body systems that exist. Don't even bother bringing up the appendix. I'm not talking organs, people, I'm talking entire body systems. I think that it is really healthiest if all the systems in our bodies are healthy and functioning as they should. The health of one system affects the health of another. Systems function within themselves but also function within a whole body.
Now, I understand that there are "exceptions" and a "need" for some people (Lord knows) to please, for the love of all that is holy, stop bringing children into your extremely volatile situation you have created for yourself by making poor choices. And I really think, with how many people seem to like the idea of sterilzation/abortifacents being readily available in the discussion around this issue, that people who are more "well-off" should put their money where their mouth is and start some sort of non-profit where low-income women can come do these things for free. Oh wait, there is already something like that. I think it starts with a P and ends with a d. So if you are someone who believes in all this crap, donate money to Planned Parenthood or something similar. Go volunteer there. But don't mandate universal coverage for screwing up your reproductive system. You cannot deny the extent of Catholic involvement in healthcare, and people, this is not going to be pretty. Ohhhhhhhh, you say, don't threaten! Well, as much as Obama/the left wants to move to socialized healthcare, I can tell you that the average person actually wants a choice of which doctor they see, where they go for care, etc. If we are selling kosher everything, and marking foods as halal, it is because people want options, and people will spend their money to support their beliefs. You can mandate coverage of whatever the heck you want for public healthcare, but for private healthcare, people need to be left to make their own selection of the available products on the market. You want kosher salt? You go buy kosher salt. If I were Jewish, I would be pissed if suddenly someone said," Well, all salt has to have some part that is iodized. You can still have your kosher salt, it just has to have a little of the regular salt in it too." No, people. If you add a little bit of non-kosher salt, the whole thing is not kosher anymore. And that's exactly the same way it works for true Catholics. Yeah, you may not use the whole "sterilization/abortion option", but you're still gonna have to pay for it. Wait! This is a product we don't want. They've added something that ruins the whole reason we bought the product in the first place. Why are we being forced to buy it? You sure as heck aren't going to force a Muslim person to buy pulled pork tacos, or Mormons to drink caffeine, and luckily in this country we do let Muslim women wear the hijab or even burka if they so please. I don't get it. I mean, I really do get it. I get it more than you might think. But I'm a little worried. Why are these people in power forcing us to pay for (thus spend our time working for) something that is against our religious beliefs? People can get out of military service, immunizations, and probably a whole lot of other things based on their religious beliefs. Why does the government have power over private health insurance?
