Epi-Pen

How many of you out there have used an Epi-Pen to stave off or treat anaphylatic shock resulting from an allergy to food or insects, etc.? I have allergic reactions to bee stings. Today I was stung by a bee but instead of using my expired Epi-Pen, I treated myself with ice, benadryl, advil, and cortisone cream. I am still monitoring my symptoms to see if the swelling at the site gets too bad or if I start to feel systemic symptoms such as hives, ringing in my ears, swelling, rapid pulse, difficulty breathing, etc.

The trouble is the Epi-Pen looks like it will hurt to use. You have to jab yourself in the thigh muscle with a spring loaded needle.

Have any of you ever used one? What was it like?
