base school?

I have written the beginnings of at least three different posts about my experiences at Centreville, but I haven't actually finished any of them (as is evident by the lack of posts about Centreville!) because I want to properly articulate what I am trying to say and I am finding that difficult.
I will try again, though, because it is easier for me to do one post on here about how I am doing than to try to remember how I am doing when all of my friends ask me individually.

I can't really summarize it by saying it is "good" or "bad". There are things I am really enjoying about it. The classes, for instance, are really good. I am very impressed by almost all of my teachers and know that they will challenge me and I will do well on the AP exams. I am disappointed, though, by the fact that my theatre teacher has done nothing theatre-related with us except go over vocab ("what is an actor, boys and girls?") and give us "pearls of wisdom" in the form of painfully boring journal entries in which we analyze motivational quotes and say how they pertain to our lives, followed by hour-long lectures on how to apply these learnings to our lives. And I am not exaggerating;  you may ask my brother, for he has the same teacher. (sadly, we are not in the same class.. that would have been fun, in an awkward sort of way.) I am disappointed, too, by my AP music theory class. There are two demographics in that class: there are the Asian kids who have been playing violin/piano for years and therefore already have a solid knowledge of theory, and then there are the kids (by which I mean guys) who play electric guitar/drums and want to be rockstars so they can make lots of money, do drugs, and get hot babes every night but don't actually want to put forth any effort and would rather spend the entire class drumming on the table with their pencils. And then there is me, the only white girl and probably the best at theory because I've been learning it since 3rd grade, and the slacker boys fight over who gets to sit next to me so they can cheat off my answers in class.

All the other classes, though, are really good and there are lots of really smart, incredibly insightful people there. Apparently my AP Lit teacher is really good; Alex was so excited when he found out I had her because she was one of the teachers that he thought really made an impact on him and made him try hard because she was convinced he could. So I think it will be a good year :]

I'm starting to make friends, very slowly. There are a lot of people who recognize me from middle school and some of them have said hi, which is nice. Lunch is really weird... there are four different lunches and the lunch you have depends on the class you have 5th or 6th period, so you might have 1st lunch on A days and 4th on B days and you aren't guaranteed to have friends to sit with. On A days, I sit with a bunch of my old friends from middle school, which is pleasant, I suppose, but there isn't usually much to talk about. It is a very subdued table. On B days, though, I sit with this guy from music theory, which I have right before lunch, and all his friends. I didn't realize this the first day I sat there, but all his friends are complete stoners. He is sort of a total loser and told me himself that I should find different friends because he wasn't a good friend. I am currently in the process of trying to find people to sit with and fast, because the longer I wait, the more awkward it will be once I finally do find another (less loserish) group. Also, one of his friends is developing a not subtle at all crush on me and I really don't want that kind of attention right now. I am trying to make it known to every guy that even looks like he might be interested that I have a boyfriend, which isn't hard because I talk about Alex all the time anyway. :]

Speaking of which! Our band is doing really well! We have 6 songs completely done and 2 more almost done, and Alex just thought of a new concept for a song the other day which we will work on soon. With 6 songs, though, we have a good set for playing live shows, so all we need to do now is finally record and send our stuff out to venues in the area and we could be playing shows in a month or two :]
We are supposed to record this weekend, but I don't know if that is actually going to happen or not.. the guy with the recording studio is, apparently, in the middle of recording his band's full length album and they may or may not be done this weekend. If not, though, next week should be good and I am so excited! It keeps getting pushed back so I hope we actually can do it soon or I will explode.

Um.. there's definitely more to say, but that's all for now because I have to do homework. I hope you all are doing well at TJ & I hope to see you guys soon!
