woah, i'm 22 now people. 22 is a sweet number. i dig pallendromes even if they're only two symbols long. (though, i think sometimes the integrity of a sentence is compromised in order to make it a pallendrome. you have to remember that pallendromes are cool because they're coincedentally the same backwards or forwards. anyone can just jumble words together, but if you make it coherent, you're a clever bastard. 'rise to vote sir' is perhaps the best pallendrome that i know of). so i had a party to celebrate my pallendrome birthday and the pallendrome birthdays of some of my peers. it was ok. yeah, just ok. i'm not gonna overhype. it was my birthday, i always have fun regardless of what i do. but new year's was the superior party, no lie. believe. and perhaps new year's will loom over other parties as this great equation that we stumbled upon and forgot in our dreams that night. but we'll try dammit. next month is ryan's birthday and i'm interested to see what a ryan-oriented party will entail. i was a bit disappointed over reports of people not wanting to see each other and yada yada drama, blah blah blah uninviting people and now the snowball effect of wide-spread social dismantling. if i could take a step back away from emotion and towards objectivity, i would say we should all be more maverick-like in our social endeavours and veer away from these ever-growing pseudo-highschool social microcosms. i hope that all makes some sense, i have a tendency group words together all willy nilly like that, though lacking the slight-of-hand of shakespeare.
whatever lagging satisfaction i needed, i more than made it up to myself this week. if two thousand years ago, the proudest boast was 'civis Romanus sum' (i'm a roman?) and if during the cold war the proudest boast was 'Ich bin ein Berliner' (i'm a citizen of berlin), then today in 2006 in south florida, the proudest boast is now definitely-'i'm on paid vacation.' paid vacation mofos. that means while i was out having fun in the sunshine enjoying great physical activities with my roomies, i was being paid. while i was playing pool and smoking myself stupid with john and his peeps, i was being paid. and while i was rocking out tonight to 'of montreal' who were amaaaaazing (they played 5 of the 5 songs i wanted to hear), i was being paid. i was being paid to enjoy life! and for once not becoming toxified by artificial light, or having a horribly tense back from sitting all day. i have time for simple enjoyable things. and the best part, i have another week coming right up. i'm not being paid, but i owe it to myself to enjoy this a tad longer.
my european travel ambitions have died. the time of death occurred when i did my taxes and got a bit more than half of what i anticipated on receiving. why do we bother with tax cuts, if me, the absolute bottom of the tax food chain only got their taxes cut from 15% to 14.75%. woooh! that quarter of a percentage point has really gotten those liberal spendocrats to fling open the gates to the american dream! but yeah, when i told my folks that my europe travel plans were no more, they suggested canada to me. and it's not a bad idea, it fulfills two of the three criterion that were important to me: 1) it's a foreign country and 2) they also have somewhat legalized, if not decriminalized pot. the third being that there be something interesting to do in such a place, but it's a distant third at best because there's something interesting to do everywhere. even howie-in-the-hills, florida.
i'm starting to realize that my time here at this house and to a larger extent to my short-lived two year episode of independence is dwindling down. won't you please help me fill the remaining time with worthwhile adventures? i'm beseeching YOU. tomorrow for example. if you love and respect thomas rivas, like i myself claim to, then why don't you drop on by the ol' 8441 house and say goodbye to the old chap. he's moving to verginia. and i think there'll be some chinese food too. karma.
