good news for milliners from a related textile arts field

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon checking out the quilt show and vendors market at the 2011 North Carolina Quilt Symposium. Quilting is a hobby interest of mine, long time readers of this blog will recall that I have covered past symposiums in here and reviewed quilt exhibits and museums as well. You know, I don't have a list, but it would be a good idea to start one! Off the top of my head, here are the ones that come to mind that I follow. Feel free to add to the list!

Conferences and organizations:

USITT
SETC
TCG
Surface Design Association
Handweavers Guild of America
America Association of Textile Chemists & Colorists
Costume Society of America

magazines and journals:

Fiberarts
Ornament
TD and T
Turkey Red Journal

The most recent addition of Fiberarts (summer 2011) is unfortunately the last, as apparently they have lost enough subscribers that they can no longer afford to publish. Turkey Red is an online journal about natural dying, and all of the above listed professional organizations publish their own journals either in print or digital formats. Admittedly there are so many publications devoted to the fashion industry, tha I'm a bit more haphazard and collecting information on it. Our shop manager subscribes to W, and I often look through women's wear daily. I'm also on the e-mail distribution lists for Hat Talk magazine and a number of millinery supply dealers which is a good source of information on hat-specific topics.

For fashion I follow blogs:

http://www.fashionising.com
www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com

Both are incredibly high volume, but they'll keep you up to date with what magazines (fashionising) and celebrities (redcarpet) are wearing and styling. I'm still trying to find a good runway show blog. I like wendylady2 here on LJ, but she just picks out the stuff she likes and I'd like to see all of it.
