Happy Halloween, peeps.
The election is two days away now, and I feel like going on a political rant. So bear with me. Its going to be long. But, read it and tell me what you think. I have some questions. I'm even going to keep this public, instead of making it friends only.
Flat out. I don't understand how Americans can be so damn stupid. I hate Bush. I really do. I hate him more as the days go on. It gets me so angry to sit there and watch him instill fear into people, and they are so susceptible to it. You know what? I don't fear terrorism anymore because thats what he and his cronies want. They want me to think they've done a bang up job keeping the terrorists out. It was them who let them in in the first place. Meanwhile, we're now the terrorists. But don't get me wrong, I am in 100% total support of the troops. I admire them greatly. They're just doing what they've been told to do. I go to school and I am told to write papers and so on, so I do it. I wait tables on the weekends, and I get anything the customer asks for. Its my job. Its their job to do whatever they're told to do over there, and they're much better and braver than me for doing so.
Bin Laden released another tape. He's a bastard, he's evil and he deserves to die. And the worst part about it (and something that turns my stomach to admit) is that he's so right about a lot of things. Our president sat there reading My Pet Goat for SEVEN minutes while our country was under attack. SEVEN. May I repeat, SEVEN. The American people aren't smart enough to realize that there's something wrong with that, yet Osama Bin Laden is like, 'Yo, wake up guys'. People feel "safer" under Bush. Bin Laden said straight out, you stop terrorizing Muslim countries, we stop attacking you. Bush attacked Iraq, lying to Americans about so-called weapons of mass destruction. We fed into their reasons for attacking us in the first place. We gave Al Qaeda exactly what they wanted. We pitted them and others against us, for what? Revenge? Oil? Imperialism?
And I don't want to hear about how Iraqis are better off now. They're not. Should Hussein have been overthrown? Yes. He was a horrible man. It could have been done in so many other, better ways than what we did. The Iraqi people are without so many resources, when they have so much at their disposal. Its sad, and I am ashamed that the leaders of my country felt it was just to do that to them.
I really think that this country will be thrown into turmoil if Bush is elected again. His administration has made horrible, fatal decisions. We no longer have credibility in the world. We're just big, hypocritical bullies. Right now, I'm reading Sean Astin's autobiography. He was in New Zealand shooting LOTR during the 2000 Presidential Election. He said that New Zealanders thought it was so funny that Americans go around the world and push our "free" government onto other countries, yet our voting system has nothing to do with letting the people decide. We're hypocrites. We expect Afghanistan and Iraq to become free democracies, but are we really free? In some ways, yes, but in many ways we're not. We're not trusted to elect our own president. Minorities are kept from voting by agenda pushers. We're led by a man who called out Hussein for being a dictator, then himself said that running a dictatorship would be much easier. If we speak out against the assholes running our country, we're being "unpatriotic". I love my country. I just don't love what its becoming.
I see a lot of bad things happening, even besides the whole Iraq ordeal. I respect other people's views on religion, but how many of them respect mine? America is not a Christian country. We may be predominantly Christian, but there's something called the separation of church and state. The Puritans came here so they would be free to worship however they pleased. I don't know exactly what I believe in. Maybe a higher power, maybe not. I'm undecided. What I do believe in is the freedom to live my life by my standards. I would never kill anyone, or hurt anyone intentionally. I make the decisions regarding my life and my body, and I refuse to let anyone tell me what I can and cannot do. Catholics, and some other Christians, do not believe in abortion. That's fine. It's THEIR bodies. I am not Catholic, not Christian, and I believe in my right to choose. Its MY body. And for myself, whether or not I personally agree with it is not even the point. Whether or not some people believe in abortion, other people are going to do it. We need to make it safe, because women will throw themselves down stairs or use coathangers if they must. We need to be rational about it. We need to make the procedure safe so women aren't forced to take drastic measures, because believe me, they will.
What's really funny to me is that people don't believe in abortion but don't believe in sex education in schools because it "promotes" sexual behavior. Wake up and smell the coffee. HORMONES AND NATURE "promote" sex. Its a natural human instinct. Some people can suppress it, others don't want to. Most teens aren't smart or informed enough to think about protection, and many of them end up pregnant. Okay, lets hear it... then they shouldn't be having sex! Completely in agreement with that but lets be real here. They're going to. My mother told me not to have sex, and I did anyway but I was informed enough to know how to do it safely. And, like abortion, we need to make it safe. Sex is only a bad thing when it is unsafe and unwanted. We need to lead our kids to choose abstinence or protected, safe sex. It is imperitive that people, including teens, know their choices. You can abstain from sex, and you'll be 100% protected. But, if you don't feel that is possible, you need to use condoms and birth control.
So here is my last plea to anyone who is listening (or who made it this far, you brave souls!). Bush and his administration are trying to evoke fear onto you, fear that they themselves created in their rash decision to lie to the American people and invade a country under the false pretense that they were a constant threat to our country. After 9/11, Bush had a 90% approval rating and a united country, a resource he could have done so much with. Instead, he wasted a good opportunity to set things straight and used 9/11 to push agendas (namely Iraq) he was waiting for an excuse to push. Women are going to lose their rights to choose and the poor are going to get poorer while the rich get richer (ahem, HALLIBURTON & CARLYLE GROUP). Education will get worse, since simple stupid slogans like "No child left behind" aren't going to save the school systems, just as "Just say no" didn't stop the drug war in the 80's. Gays and lesbians will continue to be persecuted and denied their right to live their life as they see fit. The environment, something that has barely come up at all in these campaigns, will keep going down the shitter since Bush has been the worst environmental president in history. Unemployment has also gone up for the first time since Bush Sr. was in office (and what a shit President he was, it must run in the family!). Health care won't be available to most, while insurance and drug companies will keeping reaping the benefits of sick people.
Bush is the answer for those in fear and for those who love God. Bush will not make you safer, and Bush is the worst excuse for a Christian I have ever seen. Christ sacrificed himself. Bush sacrificed 1,000 young men and women, and countless Iraqis. Think about it.
Please, for your future and the future of America, go out and vote for John Kerry on Tuesday!!
