Slow Day

It was a long weekend working, both Saturday and Sunday, my normal day off. But James made Saturday better by coming over once I had the farm to myself and taking some pictures. He even let me give him a short lesson on Simon and then take him on a long trail ride. Sunday wasn't a terrible day's work, and I got out an hour early when James came and helped me wrap things up in the afternoon.

This morning I got a call from the boss as I was getting dressed saying I could have the day off if I'd like, due to working Sunday. I was ecstatic. I stopped what I was doing and called James who was about to leave his moonlight job and come home to me. The day quickly mellowed out though. I played on the computer for a bit and played with my dog before going back to bed and taking a nap.

When I woke I noticed James making lunch and joined him in the kitchen to help when he let me in on some bad news. We ate lunch together and talked and then went out to feed Miner, who is always happy to see us. After an episode of Law & Order, I went to run some errands. I stopped by the Acme in Hockessin and got James a German Chocolate cake and candles and a silly card for his birthday tomorrow. Then I stopped in next door at the Pet Place and bought Gandhi two rats. On the way home I stopped at Dover on a whim and bought Miner a $2 stripping comb to help me tame his wild mane a bit.

Next I swung into the Glen Willow orchards following signs for Apple Cider. I was hoping to get a couple hot cups of cider to take home, but instead inadvertently bought a bag of cider apples. I don't know if the Hispanic lady misinterpreted what I was asking for or if I misinterpreted what they were selling, but I ended up with 50 lbs of apples in a bag. I tasted one and it was OKAY, but not great. Crisp, but not sweet. Oh well. $5 for 50 lbs of apples that Miner will enjoy still isn't a terrible buy. James helped me haul the bag out to Miner's barn so we can just feed them as treats. That boy is spoiled.

We made an easy dinner of pizza before going out to feed Miner and throw some sticks for Kayla. It turned into a quiet, chilled evening. The moon is just starting to wane but still looks full to my inexperienced eye. It's really quite beautiful out here in the country but we're in quiet moods. We watched Ghost Town again for something funny and sweet. We started Grey Gardens and James fell asleep on the couch and I let him be.

Now I think I'll go back out to the porch and listen to the crickets and throw sticks for Kayla in the dark. She's pretty crafty and will probably still manage to find a few of them.
