I presume you forgot all the mess with Kira and "Taming Riki"? Or you haven't heard of her/it? if that's the case I'll urge you to read at least parts from her work so you could understand what I'm about...
And then all the fans who read “Taming Riki” and think “that” is AnK…
Fanfiction work loved by fans is in most cases despised by original authors, if people do "dare" to play with characters/story who initially are not theirs at least no profit is involved so aside general author's disapproval there's no harm?
However, when you make millions on something somebody else created and more shape it to resonate in dubious taste of masses in order to sell it better... I do see problem/conflict there.
And Jackson’s movie is… “fanmovie”.
I don't see as a good thing to form/adjust everything to the new generation's preferences/taste? Are they of “weaker mind” so everything has to be “chewed” for them? Should they not experience something different?
I personally like this story and everything about it just as Tolkien created it. No reshaping needed and ultimately I think it belongs only to Tolkien, we are mare consumers and then fans and admirers ^^
Once you “clamed” it you start feels free to do with it as you like, like P.Jackson did it.
I did saw the film and since I manage to separate movie from book I had fun, but impression stays that Jackson sold his ideals (if he had any) and Tolkien for the “silver”…
