For those who have read the contemporary (alternate world) paranormal romance series, 'Guild Hunters' by Nalini Singh, this is my photoshop interpretation of the Archangel Raphael.  (The original is from the cover of the novel, "Sea Change" by Darlene Marshall.)

I'd be interested to know how you like the book(s). I'll admit I've actually reread the first three books already. I don't think I'll reread the fourth book. It was arguably the best of the series so far, but so heart-wrenching (then ultimately redemptive) I don't know if I can read it again. I'm a bit of a marshmallow.8-/

Is it like the Hunger Games? That kind of heart wrenching?

Haven't read "The Hunger Games". I've been interested in what that series is about (but my "to be read" pile is hundreds so I didn't investigate).

The sad parts in Book 4 are flashbacks to long ago tragedies in the life of an immortal (and incredibly hot and intelligent) vampire.

I read this, I liked it. I think it might be categorized as romance as opposed to fantasy, am I right? I don't read a lot of non-fic romance, but this was pretty imaginative. It has the same formula that the free ebook Selene (Lilith Saintcrow) has with the exception that this isn't quite as dark.

I think I would classify the series as more romance than fantasy also. Another category now in use is 'paranormal', and I think the series qualifies in that category, too. So, I suppose the series could be labeled 'paranormal romance'.

I'm so happy you enjoyed the first book. Books 2 & 3 are also about Raphael and Elena, and the 4th book is about Dmitri. At this point, there are 9 books scheduled for the series.

True, but the categorization of paranormal anything in book stores confuses the hell out of me. I work with some paranormal romance/urban fantasy authors and most I deal with are in the Fantasy section. This would probably be in the romance section. I mean, is there a line that is drawn? "Too much blood and it goes to fantasy, too much sex, to romance"? I've never seen this person in the fantasy section, but I get the feeling this should/could go there. How many other authors are put into the romance section when they could be in the fantasy? But romance sells better normally... is it the publisher? I just don't know. When the genre you read is spread out between sections, how does one find them?
Sorry, just me grousing.
