It was right around the time that her college plans fell through. By ‘fell through’, Quinn meant of course on how her SAT scores had been too low to be accepted to her top three...hell, her top ten. Instead of going to NYU that fall, she was planning on attending Lima Community College. Her father’s disappointment in her only real option for higher education at the moment had prompted him to spend her college savings on a new Range Rover.
That’s why she had agreed to Terri Schuester’s suggestion of being their babysitter for the summer. The day after graduation, while Santana took most of the glee club and some of the Cheerios to Kings Island, Quinn was starting her first day of work.
“So, there is mac and cheese in the cabinet, she really likes that for lunch. Will should make his own lunch, so don’t worry about him. Just keep try and keep Beth out of his way, he is such a grumpy worker, and make sure she takes a nap around twelve, okay?” Terri Schuester was barely getting a pause in-between her words.
Quinn nodded, her hands full of the toys that Terri had shoved to her in her earlier speech on what toys that Beth liked.
“Okay.” Terri took large inhale of air, throwing a longing look towards her daughter, before opening the door, “And if you need anything or having any questions, feel free to call me.”
“Okay.” Quinn said as the door shut behind Terri.
Quinn felt weird that she was babysitting her own child, but the Schuesters had insisted and Will was still clueless to his lack of paternity of Beth Schuester. He was a good father, and Quinn was at least happy that she got to at least know the kind of life her child was having, unlike so many others who give up their children.
OOOO
Beth had eaten her breakfast and was currently playing in the floor with some large bright alien-looking toys. Quinn was watching her, mostly because Terri had warned her about Beth’s habit of putting things in her mouth and partly because her daughter was easily the most beautiful child she had ever seen. Her hair was blonde like Quinn’s and it curled slightly past her ears. She had dark eyes, like Puck’s and she had a smile that could melt even Sue’s heart.
She did oddly look like Will as well, considering they shared no DNA. She had obviously taken his influence because she hummed while she ate and she sang soft little nonsense songs to herself.
Quinn watched, smiling and drinking a cup of coffee. Terri worked insane hours at this gallery that had opened up less than six months ago. She no longer worked at Sheets-And-Things, and brought enough into the income that she could buy as many toilet cleaners as she wanted.
“There were thieves, who robs us blind, and kings who kill us fine.” Will’s voice wafted through the house.
Quinn missed his apartment, but they had moved once Beth had turned one. Will was bringing in an extra check by playing locally and composing some original work. He had been offered the job of writing this musical for one of the colleges about two hours away. Terri had told Quinn he could get pissy when he was in his creative zone, and that he sang and played music loudly and often.
“DADDY!” Beth exclaimed, standing up only to run through the hall towards Will’s study.
“But steady, the rights and wrongs, invade us, as innocent song.” Will sang.
Quinn followed quickly behind Beth, hoping to stop her before she burst into Will’s study and interrupted him.
“I’m not ready, I’m not ready, for the weight of us, for the weight of us.” The last syllable was sang and then the piano stilled.
She hadn’t gotten there quickly enough when she heard, “Keep singing!”
Will laughed as Quinn made it to the doorway, “Hey, Quinn.”
“Hey, Mr. Shue.” She watched as Beth climbed into his lap and hit her hands down on some of the keys.
“Keep singing?” He asked Beth, “Oh my darling, oh my darling, Bethany!”
Beth giggled in his arms, “I’m not Bethany.”
“Oh, you’re not?” He laughed and slipped his arms around her so that he could play the piano, “Alright, Miss Beth, what do you want me to sing?”
“Loved me!” She squealed with happiness.
Will played opening notes to the Taylor Swift song his daughter was referring to it, mental hating Terri for letting her get addicted to the singer.
He sang the second half though, because he really needs to get started on the musical soon, “He respects my space and never makes me wait, and he calls exactly when he says he will.”
Quinn leaned against the threshold and watched as Will sang to her...his daughter.
He finished the song, and lifted Beth off of his lap, “Okay, sweetie, I need to work.”
OOOO
The first month, Quinn and Beth spent outside. The Schuesters’ backyard wasn’t too big but to Beth, it was huge. Terri was rarely home and always seemed to have an impending deadline, Will was an absolute shut-in, the only sign of his presence was the music that filled the house and the many groans and sounds of aggravation that came from his study.
Beth and Quinn were sitting on a picnic blanket eating the small sandwiches and fruit. Beth was humming as she eat the food, a habit Quinn had grown to love.
“Can I join you?” Will asked from the patio.
Both of them turned to greet him with a smile. He looked extremely disheveled with messy hair that had no gel present, wrinkled trousers and a white loose button-up long-sleeve. Quinn blocked the oncoming thought that once he sat down, they’d look like a real family. She was terrified of getting too close to Beth, of regretting even more that she gave her up.
Will looked so much younger with his hair so messy and a grin on his face. He laid down on the free area of the blanket, Beth automatically relocating herself closer to him. He was busy looking up at the sky, which was blue, clear and bright.
“It is too nice of a day to be locked up in there.” He murmured to himself.
“How is the musical coming?” Quinn asked.
“Coming” He groaned, “It is a lot harder than I realized, and the whole thing keeps becoming inappropriate and it just is killing me.” He grabbed one of the sandwiches, taking a large bite.
“Inappropriate?” She raised an eyebrow, she never expected that Will could ever write anything inappropriate.
“Yeah, they wanted a high school drama and every interaction between one of the students and the teacher just comes out with a bunch of...tension that is illegal in that setting.”
“Ohhh.”
“Yeah...though it is a common problem, I just feel weird writing about it.” He shoveled in a strawberry as well.
The talk of teacher/student inappropriateness must have sunk in because Quinn was very preoccupied with the way his lips formed around the berry. He was an extremely handsome man...even though he was almost twice her age. But age flew out the window as a slight breeze came and moved the hem of his shirt, where she could briefly see the muscles of his abdomen.
This is a normal response to a guy fathering your child...normal...guy...child...ughhhh, Quinn frowned at the swirl of thoughts.
“I forgot ice.” She said, grabbing her glass and rushing inside.
A MARRIED MAN! A MARRIED MAN THAT WAS YOUR TEACHER! Her mind screamed as she watched him playing with Beth from the kitchen window.
OOOO
She was going to tell Terri that she wasn’t feeling well and needed to take off a couple days. Will had gone back to his study, and Beth was watching an old Disney cartoon. And she had only about an hour left before Terri would get home.
Something told her that when the phone starting ringing, something bad was about to happen.
Terri’s fast speech over the phone confirmed it. Quinn walked reluctantly to Will’s study, and knocked softly on the door.
“Come in.” She heard him call.
“Umm, Terri called, she’s got to drive up to Michigan tonight to pick up this piece, and it can’t wait. She wants me to stay and help with Beth.”
“You don’t have to stay, I can manage.” He smiled.
She shook her head, “It’s fine, I have a change of clothes in the car, and don’t you have to be at that conference at six.”
“SHIT!” He exclaimed, “I completely forgot about that.”
“Well, I’ll just sleep on the couch and you can wake me up when you leave.” She was not as calm on the inside as she appeared on the outside. She really needed some distance from him, to clear these messed-up thoughts.
“But-” He started, she held up a hand and shook her head to stop him.
“No arguing, it’s fine.” She smiled, “Now, I’ll go get started on dinner.”
She turned and took a step away, “Thanks, Quinn.”
“No problem.”
OOOO
When Will dragged Beth to bed, Quinn fell asleep while he read to his daughter. He found her curled up on the couch, and managed to get a pillow under her head and cover her up.
She woke up in the middle of the night, the clock on the wall she barely could see but she could tell it was the wee hours of the morning to yelling.
“ANOTHER MAN? WHAT ABOUT OUR DAUGHTER? TERRI. TERRI. DON’T!” Quinn flinched at the anger she felt in his voice.
She heard something smash, guessing it was the phone.
It was quiet enough that she soon fell back asleep.
OOOO
“Wake up, Quinn.” Will’s voice invaded her senses and she felt him shaking her shoulder.
Her eyes slowly opened, seeing his set jaw and gelled hair.
“I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He said, moving away from her.
She sat up on the couch, “Okay.”
OOOO
He was still angry when he returned home. He waited till Beth was busy with a couple dolls before approaching Quinn who was in the kitchen cleaning up from dinner.
“I hate to do this, but could you stay over again? I have to go again tomorrow and Terri isn’t going to be back...” He looked exhausted.
“I’ll have to go pick up some more clothes, but yeah, as long as you need me, I’ll be here.”
“Thanks, Quinn.” He sighed.
She tried to fight it, but she put her arms around his torso and hugged him. He didn’t move for a second, but then he hugged her back.
OOOO
She didn’t really know how long it had been since that first night, but it was late in July when she noticed how much of her stuff had made it’s way into Will’s home. How much of Terri’s had made it’s way out. Terri had filed for divorced, and poor confused Will didn’t understand what had happened to make her sign over complete custody of Beth to him. His normally arguing wife had given up her daughter so easily.
There were a couple times when Quinn wanted to tell him the truth, that Beth was their child, but she didn’t want to hurt him even more. She cared for him too deeply...but she knew she needed to tell him sometime.
She is picking up around the house, a task she had taken over since Terri’s departure. She never bothered with his room though...she had never even seen it.
She hears his car return, and runs a hand through her hair automatically.
When he comes in, there is a slight stagger to his walk, he grins at her, “Quinn!”
Her eyebrows knead together, “Are you drunk?”
He laughed, “Getting there.”
He had been gone a long time just to be dropping Beth at his parents. She had been waiting on him because he was also supposed to stop at the bank and get her pay. She was making significantly more now that she was pretty much a live-in nanny, but she really only used it for gas and groceries for the two Schuesters.
He walked past her and into the kitchen. He opened a can of beer and extended one to her.
She shook her head.
“Take it. I’m celebrating!” He tossed it to her and she luckily caught it.
He chugged half of his and she warily opened hers.
“Celebrating what?”
“Life.” He answered.
The rest of the alcohol in the house drunk later....
“So, Puckerman? Seriously what was the appeal? Was it the mohawk?” Will laughed. They were lounging on the floor in front of the couch. ESPN was playing because they had stopped on the channel thirty minutes earlier and just left it.
“I was kinda drunk off of wine coolers and he was sweet...I guess.” She laughed, as they both sort of leaned against each other.
“Did it hurt giving up your child?” He asked.
“I know she went to a good family, so it doesn’t hurt as bad.” She said, wondering if she could tell him the truth.
“At least you know, you didn’t abandon her.” He looked down at whatever was in his hand.
“No, I didn’t.” Quinn nodded.
She didn’t see him coming, but the next moment, his hands were holding her head still and his tongue was sliding into her mouth. She pushed against his chest, he didn’t want her right now, he wasn’t in the right mind and Quinn Fabray didn’t do second best...normally, because normally she wasn’t kissed the way Will was kissing her now. His mouth moved relentlessly against hers until she stopped pushing and joined in.
She tasted the alcohol as their tongues battled for dominance and her hands wrapped around his neck. She wasn’t even trying fully to be in control of this situation like she used to with Sam and Finn. One of his hands left her face and traveled further down.
She moaned into him as he touched her through her jeans, just pressed against her. She had expected his hand to go up her shirt, but he wasn’t messing around.
His fingers unbuttoned the jeans. She raised her hips and he slid them down enough that he could move his fingers under her panties and making purchase.
He rubbed her clit until she was felt lightheaded from his continuous kiss and the attention his hand was giving her. He moved his lips from her mouth to her neck. As his fingers pinched her nub slightly, he sucked on the hollow of her neck.
She groaned as his fingers moved away. He moved back up to her mouth and kissed her again. He thrust two fingers into him, and when her gasp came, used the opportunity to mimic the actions of his finger with his tongue.
It was barely three seconds into it, when she tightened around his fingers and broke the kiss. He felt her come apart around him.
“Oh, god.” She sighed without much of a breath.
He pressed a soft closed kiss on her mouth.
They stood up and she stumbled back against the ottoman. She laughed as she face planted against the soft material. She moved to get up, but Will placed a hand on her back stoping. He moved until he over her. He moved her. He kissed her shoulder, and then her neck.
She laid still while he removed her pants the rest of the way and discarded her underwear.
Quinn wasn’t experienced when it came to sex, but she had heard from others that it was more pleasurable in this position. The only problem was that she wanted to see him when it happened....
Oh, god, he doesn’t want to see me, she bit her lip as she realized that he was doing this because of Terri. This way he could pretend she was Terri. She wanted to push him away, slap him and run away from here. But she couldn’t, she couldn’t bring herself to leave him, she wanted this so badly, even if he didn’t technically want her.
His left arm planted into the ottoman beside of her head. A tear made it’s way down Quinn’s cheek as the thrust into her for the first time.
She barely recognized the sound that came from her throat as he filled her. He was larger than Puck. He didn’t move until she got used to the feel of him inside of her. He waited until she moaned and tried to move back against him.
He pulled out slowly until only the tip remained, and then swiftly thrust back inside.
Quinn couldn’t help but cry as he made it feel so amazing with his right hand under her and teasing her clit. She knew it was the only chance she would ever have with him, but it was breaking her heart the same time.
A high-pitched cry was emitted as she came violently against him. He continued to thrust until-
“Quinn!” He yelled and rode out his own climax.
She didn’t register that it was her name until he collapsed against her and rolled off to lay beside of her on the ottoman.
He smiled, until he realized that she was crying.
“Quinn, what’s wrong? Did I hurt you?” He moved so that he could hold her head in his hand again, tilting it to him.
She shook her head, “No.”
“What it is?”
She bit her lip and tried to hold back the next round of tears, “You...you’re-” Her voice broke and she waited to continue, “in love with Ter...Terr...uhhh”
He laughed slightly, “No, no, I’m not.”
She continued crying and shook her head again, “Yes.”
“Do you think I could make love to you if I loved someone else?” He asked, kissing her forehead.
“You do, you’re just upset.” Quinn couldn’t handle it any longer.
She flew up and away from the ottoman. She grabbed her pants and yanked them on as quickly as she could.
“And, Beth is my daughter, Terri adopted her.” She yelled from the doorway.
Her underwear lay forgotten, Will lay confused as she ran out of the house.
He moved up as well, but by time he got to the door, she was driving away.
OOOO
She managed to effectively dodge and hide from Will for the summer, until she was ready for to go to Lima CC. Which was on the opposite side of town from Will. He stopped calling around August, mainly because he had to finish his musical and he would still text every night.
She wanted to reply but she couldn’t.
The Monday after her first week of class, she woke up only to spend her first ten minutes awake with her face above the toilet retching.
“Oh, god.” She sighed as she felt deja vu over her awfulness.
OOOO
She waited until she knew he’d be home from school.
She almost turned around when she got close to his house, but she wasn’t going to lie about paternity again.
Beth opened to door and squealed.
“Who is it?” Will called from somewhere in the house.
“QUINN!” Beth shrieked.
Quinn heard something drop inside and saw him sprinting down the hall.
“Quinn.” He breathed when he reached the door.
She wanted to hug him, “We need to talk.”
He nodded, “Beth, would you go play in your room for a minute?”
Beth ran off with a smile, and Will lead Quinn into his study.
“I’m pregnant.” She said as soon as he shut the door.
His mouth gaped, “What?”
She nodded, “Pregnant from the time we...you know.”
He closed the distance between them. Embracing her the way she had been wanting to him. He buried his head into her hair, “I’m so happy.”
She pulled away, “Happy?”
“Yeah, I mean we already have one child together.” He smiled, “Quinn, I love you, even though you think I’m in love with Terri...I’m not, I haven’t been in a long time, in fact the only reason we stayed together was because of Beth...and she wasn’t even ours, not really.”
Quinn felt those awful tears coming back, “You’re not mad I lied?”
Will shook his head, and returned his hands to her hips, “No.”
“But-” She started.
“We’ll figure it out.” He smirked, and pushed her back until she was against the piano.
He helped get her onto it. Happy she was wearing a skirt. He wasted no time kissing her and moving a hand between her legs.
He pulled away, “No underwear?”
She blushed, “I missed you.”
“I missed you, too.” He returned to her mouth.
She bit into his shoulder when it became to much, not wanting their daughter to hear.
They would figure it out, she was sure.
OOOO
